I also spoke with Nicole DeVoe, a coordinator for the Coalition Against the Sexual Exploitation of Youth, or CACI, about what children need to know fundamentally.

Children really need to know what consent is.

It's something that we speak to young people and they don't fully understand what consent is.

We use the analogy FRIES.

It's freely given, reversible, informed, enthusiastic and specific consent.

So, you know, right from a really, really young age, teaching children that, you know, you don't have to hug a relative if you're not comfortable with that up to a point where we start to talk about, you know, actual consent around sex.

And so knowing that it's not my responsibility to make other people feel comfortable, but when I'm getting those, you know, icky feelings, those red flags, whatever language we use as children get older.
