But, I mean, what did you see out of Tyler and the operation and everything about how things went, especially on the 57-yard line?

I thought Tyler did a tremendous job.

He's been under a lot of stress the last couple of weeks.

Obviously, as an athlete, it's never fun when your team brings in another player at your position when you're the only guy that's supposed to be on the roster that does your job.

Having been the second long snapper at one point in my career, With Morgan Cox, it's not fun for either party.

But it's really difficult to overcome sometimes because you're kind of just sitting in the back of your head like, if I make a mistake, am I going to lose my job kind of situation.

And for Tyler, for him to be able to come out and do what he did on Sunday, it's just a testament to his character and to who he is as a person and how hard he, how serious he takes his job and how hard he works because it's not easy to do.

I mean, it seems like he's a guy that stepped up, especially in this game.

Nick, things you would add there and then kind of how you explain the text and ways you kind of went about that.

Yeah, I mean, this is huge in Proverbs.

I mean, straight out the gate with listen to your father's teaching and do not forsake your mother's instructions.

And a major reason for that is what John's already mentioned is that your first and most fundamental relationship on the planet is with an authority figure or two authority figures and how you learn to relate to authority is extremely, I mean, it's determinative of the rest of your life because the person who disobeys father and mother will disobey a teacher and, uh, coach and law enforcement and ultimately god and so the language in proverbs is apocalyptic you know if you don't listen to your father and mother it's going to lead you into destruction and that's not just a temporary destruction this is this is eternal condemnation i think and so that that's a big piece of this is that when we're talking about fathers and mothers we're not just talking about practical parenting advice although There's a lot there that can be said.

Ultimately, we're parenting, though, with eschatology in mind, because we want our kids to stand before a judgment seat one day.

We know they will, and we want them to be able to honor that authority.

Nick, same question to you, how you're balancing and speaking to children in this, speaking to parents and that sort of thing.

I think a big piece of this in Deuteronomy and Leviticus, whenever this commandment is kind of fleshed out, is having to do with the way that faith is transmitted from generation to generation, is fathers teach these things to your sons.

Nick, any things you would add to kind of how you were trying to explain it? And even just if there's unique applications or implications that you're drawing out as you're obviously focusing on, you do work hard, not just laziness, but also this built-in 24-hour kind of day and how you would have taught that to your people.

Yeah, I think, I mean, another dichotomy that I've seen in the past has been The tendency to approach these commandments on the one hand, purely about God's law and obedience to him and glorifying him.

Or some people say, we want to take this as purely practical advice as to how you're designed and how you should live and how you'll flourish.

And I would say, don't err on either extreme, because what we see in the law of God is the wisdom of God.

And he has made the world in such a way that it functions according to his wisdom.

And so our best life is to live in accordance with the way God has designed the world.

And so part of what he's doing here in the Sabbath is to remind us of our creatureliness, There is a God in heaven and you are not him.

I think he's gonna be a phenomenal talent.

Uh, I, I, you know, I really enjoyed working with him.

I thought we had a great spring together, gotten, getting to know each other and, and kind of working on things that we like and dislike.

And I can't wait to see him in action, and I, you know, for Tyler, like, I can see the intentionality that he has taken to his preparation for this season and everything that he's done since we left Pittsburgh.

And, uh, I, I, obviously, I see, I saw the toll that it took on him early on, but the way he's been able to bounce back and the work that he's put in throughout the last six or eight months to get to where we are today, uh, to get ready for the NFL season, I'm...

[chuckles]

And, you know, I think it's so interesting because you mentioned, you know, Declan and the offense a little bit earlier in the show and kind of like what you've been seeing with him at practice for the last six years and everything, you know, is there anything, and maybe you, I mean, you've been locked in on your own stuff so you know maybe you haven't necessarily been like locked in on what they're doing on the offensive side of the ball totally but like if you have had a chance to like observe what they're doing over on offense or maybe even defense or just your own special team stuff like can you tell like the the level of detail early on in preparation that the new coaching staff and even you working with like randy and anthony levine like those guys kind of like the detail level over the course of the offseason workouts and maybe what you expect hanging the training camp

You know, watching from afar, when I'm watching offense and stuff, I've seen L in a position where, of vocalization as a leader that maybe I haven't paid attention to in the past.

But for some reason this year was, at least in the spring, was extremely noticeable to me.

Seeing him commanding the offense, demanding the perfection in the plays and execution.

He's obviously the quarterback, but it's not just him, it's every single guy.

This is a whole new system top to bottom.

There's a few things that we've kept on special teams.

So, I mean, how are you approaching, you know, training camp coming up and kind of what you want to have your leadership be this season?

Nick, the stage is yours.

And I always learn, listen to your first episode and I'm like, Ooh, I love that idea too.

Can we

I mean, what do you make of, of the guys on the D line? And I guess, have you seen anything from them earlier? What are your thoughts?

No, I think you're right.

I think Trey is an extreme talent.

You know, I have a, a story with Trey when, in 2019 when I was a rookie, I got signed to the Saints as a, as a long snapper competing for the job.

And as the second long snapper, I was going up against the first punt rush team, and that was back before Trey became the pass rusher that he is today.

Um, so he was running, he was like their pass r- or he was their punt rush guy.

And similar to those things you were saying about him and him helping Carson Vince- Vincent, he would do the same thing with me.

So I guess how's the feel been, and are you still kind of adjusting to the newness o- of what Jesse's bringing to the table based off of what you had been through for years with John Harbaugh and, and his style of doing things?

Can you talk about both Tyler and Ryan, kind of how Ryan has been so far for these first couple of days and, you know, I guess now almost first month of, of being a Raven and obviously Tyler with his day, kind of what you've seen from him so far?

Yeah.

I think Tyler's made tons of strides in the off-season.

Him and I have obviously been working together through, you know, March and April and, and early part of May.

Um, so I've, I've been able to see him grow.

He got, he got a chance to take some time off.

I think he really needed it.

I, yeah, that, uh, yeah.

Not sure what's going on, but, um, but no, it, it's, I mean, it's hyper-specific to what we're doing now, and obviously we have the str- same strength staff that we've had for the last few years.

So they're continuing to, to build on some of the stuff that we thought we did well the last couple of years and trying to get better in areas that we thought maybe we, you know, maybe we should take more time on this and less time on that.

And they're doing a really good job of kind of getting everybody ready to go.

They're giving us an ample amount of time to kind of ramp into practice versus, I, I know one of the complaints in the past was like, and part of it is on the individuals who aren't preparing themselves for practice.

You know, they're in the locker room, they're eating lunch, they're doing whatever, and they're not getting themselves 100% ready to go for when we hit special teams and we have to go 100, you know, you got to go 100% speed.

Um, so it's a very difficult thing to do, especially if you're not taking the initiative to do it yourself.

[laughs]

So when you look at that, week six, week seven, and then your last four games of the year, was that how you envisioned the AFC North schedule going for you, and how do you like it?

You know, I think it's a gauntlet.

I feel like the NFL, that's a strategy on their part.

I feel like we always end up playing at least three games to finish out the year, uh, in the division.

You know, they, they love that.

I think the fans love it.

You know, for us as players, I don't...
