That feels, that feels wrong.
1:57
Yes.
1:57
It, a lot of people have an issue like taking a pair of scissors to, um, our flag, but, um, the other way is to burn it privately.
2:07
And that's doing in your backyard, just quietly.
2:12
A lot of veterans end up doing that.
2:14
A lot of current serving members do that.
2:17
It's quite common.
3:38
What's the reaction been like?
6:14
Well, yeah,
6:15
they are traditional, but you always make that twist, right? When you're working.
6:19
So just in the military aspect, right? We're Canada's National Military Cemetery.
6:23
But we've been sort of the slow walk in this journey for 200 years with the War of 1812 to present day.
6:29
And when we're looking at sort of bringing in events, how can I connect with a community group or a group of people that want to come in and celebrate something? So we've got bikers that come in, veteran bikers.
6:40
And then you'll hear the roar and they'll come in and we do very traditional service with a mix.
6:45
We founded a Latin American Remembrance Committee.

Can you remember the most intense moment you had with Tyke?
58:47
Yeah, it was our first bite.
58:51
We were probably about a month on the street out of canine school.
58:56
And we had a problem with somebody, an arsonist, right? They were lighting apartment complexes on fire and almost killed a couple people in this apartment complex.
59:07
They were sleeping, the whole thing catches on fire and there was just fires all around the city.
59:11
So we were actively looking for who this person was.
59:15
And we got some information that this individual was in this location and our street crimes guys go out there And they see him and he's kind of, and so Daly City, Highway 1 is on the west side of our city, right? So beautiful, man.

Selection varies by location.

And it's been asked of me and it's been asked before, but why do you think there's a shift in the culture that's starting to focus more on that type of recruiting?
69:11
Yeah.
69:13
Well, I don't think it takes too long to turn your news on and watch social media to see the fucking craziness that's happening in our world today.
69:24
But when I started in 2014, I...
69:29
I was around for the Mike Brown Ferguson shooting, and there was protests like crazy where the defund the police started, right? And it was at that time where I saw this almost campaign that started to diminish law enforcement, diminish what we stand for, but ultimately diminish why we're there, right? And I think through these years, and then you throw in George Floyd, you throw in, I mean, really at this point, anything you want that you can hate the police for, Demilitarize all this fucking, it's like, okay, yeah, let's demilitarize law enforcement and then go into Chicago where there's fucking 20 dudes standing on a, on a street corner with AR pistols in their pants.
70:12
And so, and that's ultimately what I think the, the, the foundation is of, of this new recruitment type of, of, you know, deal that we have in law enforcement.
70:22
It's, It's just like almost a constant feeling of trying to lower the expectations because we want to put out this lie that law enforcement really isn't as bad as it is, right?
