We do see lots of things like renoviction taking place, we, we use that term, where landlords often, um, say they need to renovate the building or the unit, and then they throw out tenants, and this is something, um, that they do in order to jack up rents to bring new people in.

And, um, you know, it's important if a tenant is feeling that this is happening to them to go to their tenancy board, uh, with evidence and, and complain about it to make sure that the landlord is following the rules depending where they are i- in Canada and to make sure that they're not just being, um, evicted unnecessarily.

We do need the federal government here to step in when it comes to, um, protecting the a- already existing affordable housing that we have, um, putting proper, um, um, rules and terms, um, in order to protect tenants from such loopholes, um, taking place, you know, in order for landlords to get more money.

Bruce SelleryHOST
You may be, uh, concerned about m- m, you know, asking for too much because then you're gonna be the difficult renter, and then, um, they're gonna not renew your lease.

It's an issue, and, uh, many t- tenants do fear retaliation and that they'll be thrown out, so often keep quiet because, um, especially low to moderate income tenants, um, they cannot find a place within their budget.
