Just explain to our listeners what you do for a living.
5:11
[laughs] So my everyday normal job is being a professor at the Tel Aviv University, and my expertise started with doing work on poverty in the community in Israel and in the United States.
5:23
And then what I'm doing recently, like the last four years, is mainly focusing on social norms because, you know, we, we understand that authority is a big pla- you know, a player in the Haredi community.
5:36
But actually when we measure it statistically, the way people behave are really governed by their norms.
5:43
You know, they, no one wants to deviate from their friends.
5:46
Everyone wants to be accepted.
5:47
So you just do the things that are accepted.

30:02
So what's happening here?
9:33
So let's just, um, pinpoint exactly what the party stands for.
9:37
Okay.
9:37
So I think, yeah, the party is a group of people that are Haredim, feel very much part of the community, concerned with what they see outside and taking initiative to change it, and we have, like, three main points.
9:52
We wanna change the education, meaning to make sure that children get English and math and some s- life skills and civics into their education system.
10:04
I- we think this is the very minimum obligation of parents and a community towards their children to have a future.
10:12
So education is one, uh, pillar.
10:16
The other one is participation in the army.

29:44
So what's happening here?
2:27
So since then, I've become the private red carpet that handholds them through the process and makes sure that we don't lose out on these wonderful people and wonderful projects here in Israel.
2:36
I grew up in a Haredi family and I did, you know, kind of the normal conventional journey and became a teacher.
2:42
I was a teacher in high school in the Hadash and in the Yashan and in the Sniff, like the main Haredi community.
2:48
high school system.
2:49
And I was teaching history and I initiated history reform, which means I rewrote the history curriculum for the entire state.
2:59
I'm not going to go into the whole process.
3:01
I think it's very important and it has to do with maybe at the end of the day it really comes together with what we're trying to do is that I think like the Haredi community should be you know corresponding with reality and also when we are studying it should be relevant to their life and I introduced the Middle East as the in the core curriculum.

For women, you know, in the Haredi community, what do you think needs to be done the most and what areas do you want to target as women, you know, that maybe was silenced before?
4:03
So before we start, introduce yourself.
4:06
Okay, I'm Nechumi.
4:07
I grew up in a Haredi Hasidic family.
4:10
Like many other girls, I was taught that my best actualization would be a teacher.
4:18
And I was a teacher.
4:19
But then I started deviating because when I was, I think, 29 at the time, I initiated a curriculum change in history for the entire Haredi high schools.
4:30
the whole process.

What do you see as the root cause of Haredi poverty?
