Were there like... precursors to polyvagal theory, like stuff or particular scientists who are saying things that Porges is drawing upon? Or was this a really novel thing that Porges sort of came upon or discovered himself?

Okay, so you've given a lot of backstory, which I really appreciate because I think it's important, and I also think it's important for people who are listening to this to understand that even your own story, you're talking about maybe 25 years of familiarization with this, right? Not that the whole time you knew it was polyvagal or not, in quotes, but like this awareness of the nervous system in yoga, you know, this is something that's been brewing for a while, right? And I think what I need to do before I answer your question about precursors, you know, you asked, are there like precursors to polyvagal theory, is sort of establish a couple of things just from my own side, just so that we're kind of, you know, in tandem here with level of story.

So, We have a little bit of a parallel experience in that my entree into really deep dives in autonomic physiology was both, you know, I studied neuroscience at university.
17:37
That was the initial foray into it.
17:39
But then it was a very disappointing foray at first because I started meditating when I was 19 years old.
17:45
And, you know, you mentioned like the reason that you started doing yoga.
17:47
Yeah.
