So in terms of biology, fungi kind of grow outwards in a circle, and where the mushrooms come up is right at the edge of their growth ring.

So, like, as they grow out, this ring gets wider and wider and wider, and it kind of shows you a little bit of quite interesting things about the fungi.

So you can estimate the age of the fungus, if you can measure the ring.

And then y- as Laura mentioned, you've got these fantastic folktales kind of linked to the disturbances it causes.

So as fungi are growing, they're breaking down nutrients, and so you can even see fungi rings when there are no fungi, where you see like a richness of grass.

So perhaps if you walk around, you might see like a rich, dark green circle of grass, and that's sign that there's some fungi under the ground there kind of breaking those nutrients and helping feed the grass around them.
