How do you find names of people that the historical record tried to forget?

To clarify, not necessarily names because as we can understand the records pertaining to those who were enslaved, not everyone was named.

in the historical records because they were property.

But I have been able to ascertain that at least 650 Black people were enslaved.

And there were about 13 of those who were enslaved in the town of York.

And there's those who were enslaved across the colony from the Detroit River to the border that we share with Quebec.

And again, as we talked about earlier, that there was this small free population which has not received a lot of attention in some of the research as well.

Where did they stand in the society of colonial York?
