I asked her what she made of that suggestion that surrogacy in most cases amounted to de facto slavery.
34:07
She uses such shocking language that I think is designed to put people at polar opposites.
34:15
Surrogacy is not inherently exploitative, as she is describing.
34:21
There are occasions when that can happen, and I don't shy away from that.
34:25
What we need if we want to protect surrogates and children is proper regulation.
34:31
So I think what some of the countries that she's talking about is where there isn't that regulation or there's no laws and therefore there's a grey area and people can therefore exploit other people for financial gain.
34:44
And nobody that's in this sort of surrogacy space as a professional wants that to happen.
36:11
Could more be done or are the regulations all right in the UK as far as you're concerned?
7:00
And then when it comes to Mexico City or the UK, what reason do you find intended parents may choose a Mexico City pathway? Speed.
7:10
Speed.
7:10
That's the main thing that I'm seeing is the turnaround in terms of being matched with a surrogate and being able to have your embryo transfer.
7:17
So it's a very, very slick process.
7:20
So the surrogates, my understanding is that they are screened and ready to go by the time that you're also ready to go with your embryos.
7:29
So you have that matching process and you are matching much quicker in Mexico City than you would be in the UK.
7:36
Basically, there are more intended parents in the UK than there are surrogates.
10:07
Can you talk to us a little bit about what legal procedures take place in Mexico before and after birth? And how do these differ from what UK intended parents may
3:57
But what are all the legal parts around
3:58
that? Well, first of all, you have to realise that there is a legal dimension to it.
4:03
And some people don't.
4:04
So they will go ahead and perhaps have home insemination with a friend and they're not married.
4:10
And then they realise, oh, you're a legal parent and I wasn't expecting that.
4:14
But you want there to be a legal parent with your partner who you're not married to.
4:17
So, yes, it's understanding that there is a legal dimension and then taking that legal advice seriously.

8 MINS LATER

my gosh.
