So what specifically within political theory attracted you to study democracy and popular decision making as opposed to other concepts?
28:16
Yeah.
28:17
Well, precisely because I was very much interested in 18th, 19th century productions of the idea of rationality on the one hand, and society in relation to the social and the political, which became very important in the 19th century.
28:35
The emergence of civil society was there, and also economic society was there, and also class.
28:42
conception of society was there 19th century is crucial in this sense and then I was also interested in how the political system responded to this transformation in society and then the American Revolution and the French Revolution became crucial because they were a kind of strategic answer, but also projectual creation for the future based on the society in which they were positioned.

So they were born inside of those social specificity, but through the knowledge of the past, think about the great Federalists, they really had familiarity with the ancient Rome, the beginning of early modern republics and the English Revolution.

And they were capable of using their knowledge to answer the basic question of giving an order, political and state-based order, to a society that it was in formation.

So do you happen to be working on similar topics currently? And if not, how do you decide to move from researching one concept to another? At what point do you make that change in your research process?
