How do you find, how do you explain as you look back at the pathway in the arc of your career, how do you explain to yourself or to others, how do you wind up doing what you're doing today?

Well, this all started at Berkeley, where I was pre-med and, you know, trying to make my parents proud and, you know, taking molecular and cell bio classes and had an internship in Peru, in the outskirts of Cusco, Peru, and was working in a doctor's office and a clinic and small hospital there, mostly serving poor rural women and girls.

And it was two things became increasingly clear to me.

One was I did not want to be a doctor.

I do not like the sight of blood, the smell of hospitals.

That was just not for me.

And it was also clear that public health and economic development are so critical for health.

Is this going to grow as well?
