First of all, I just want to extend my condolences to the victims and the family and friends and co-workers surrounding that incident.

It is just devastating on a community when that happens.

And unfortunately, it happens in Canada far more than one realizes.

Every 48 hours in Canada, a woman or girl is killed.

and we have to do something.

So I really want to recognize the leadership of Minister Leila Evans along with the advocates, the organizers, survivors and allies who made this declaration possible.

It's necessary, and as you said, the discussion is almost more so.
