say
13:06
that, I say that to say is that I feel like I'm more old school.
13:12
Um, so, so I went to school for this.
13:18
I graduated Howard.
13:20
I got a graduate degree in journalism.
13:23
Right after that, I worked in traditional newsrooms all my life from Fox, ABC, NBC.
13:30
And I... learned from the ground up how to do every single job.

So as our time comes to an end here, I have a question I ask every guest, which is what is the best advice and worst advice you've ever gotten? So you can start either with the good news or the bad news in your world.
6:35
That's a better point." Well, kinda jumping off of that, I would love to know, is there a message or a thought that you're hoping audiences will take away from this?
6:47
Yes.
6:48
I would say that [sighs] I've had a lot of questions come up, especially with my family, because this show is so personal and so based on real thoughts that I've had and real things that have happened.
7:04
And I would say, like, I've had a really hard time because it kind of felt at the beginning of writing this, like I was tossing my past aside and kind of divorcing myself from it.
7:19
And I think as I have worked with our fabulous directors, Maddie Jo Cou愈rt, who is the author of God, Sex, and Rich People, which, this is crazy, because it's a book I love.
7:30
She's directing my show.
7:32
And Liv King.
10:58
Well, now we have arrived at my favorite question to ask guests, and of course that is, what is your favorite theater memory?
15:21
[laughs] Yes.
15:21
So, [laughs] um, meaning, like, we...
15:25
I've seen trainers get in front of the room and they make it about them, like they're the sage on the stage instead of being the guide on the side.
15:32
And what I know is people learn not by listening, but by doing, and it's important to appeal to the different learning styles in the room.
15:42
I remember when I was a sophomore in college at, at MSU and I was failing my math class, like bombing it, and I was sitting in this, um, this side room in my dorm with this big whiteboard, and for whatever reason, I don't know what came over me, I just started writing all of the math problems on the board and talking them out loud and it started to click.
16:03
And so you would see me in my math class, and I had to, like, warn my instructor, "I'm not cheating.
16:07
I'm just learning in my own way." But I had to give myself permission that I, I learn differently than other people.
