Essentially, Windscale pile on fire.And on the back of that, there was a necessity to put significant volumes of contaminated radioactive waste in a disposal facility.

And in nineteen fifty-nine, the repository effectively started operation to be able to dispose of significant volumes at that point in time arising on the back of that.

It used to be a Royal Ordnance Factory, so from nineteen thirty-nine through to nineteen forty-five, what is essentially the footprint of the nuclear license site now was actually producing TNT explosives for the World War II endeavor.

A really busy site, thousands of people working on it, and actually producing hundreds of tons of TNT every week for the World War II endeavor, uh, prior to nineteen forty-five, at which point it transitioned to be decommissioning of, of munitions on the site as well.

So we, we've got a fascinating kinda history and background and heritage that we've inherited, but similarly, some hazards associated with that that we need to be cognizant of as well as we do operate the site.
