Former Majority Leader of the Missouri Senate

Oct 3, 2026

14:44
So this amendment, Amendment 3, will be on the ballot and the call is to vote yes on this amendment.
14:53
The call is to vote yes on this amendment.
14:55
And I'm telling you, Missourians, as we travel the state, we travel the state quite a bit.
15:00
I've been in five different cities in the last three days on multiple different issues.
15:05
I have folks coming up to me all the time saying, tell me this isn't true.
15:08
We don't have abortion on demand.
15:10
We have abortion essentially on demand in Missouri now.
16:52
What's the website where people can find out more information there in Missouri?
18:33
So, Governor, can you please take us kind of from the top so that when we give the current state of what's going on, people know how we go? maps in the state of Missouri?
18:45
Well, as you had Catherine Hannaway on last week, as you mentioned, General Hannaway has done a great job of making sure Missourians are not disenfranchised and that they're able to vote on the same map in November that they were able to vote on in August.
19:00
And I'm sure she explained this same Missouri Supreme Court four times previously has affirmed that the Missouri First map is the map that voters should be voting on.
19:12
Really, I would say a surprise decision by them last week that not only took that map off the table, but put a different map for Missourians to vote on in November, not giving anybody clarity, adding confusion to an already complex subject.
19:31
Very disappointed to see what the Missouri Supreme Court did in that instance.
19:35
As you mentioned, Attorney General Hannaway appealed on behalf of Missourians to the Supreme Court.
19:42
uh, last week, and that was considered over the weekend.
24:14
How does that reflect Missourians more than the one that it replaced?
3:03
So, Governor, can you please take us kind of from the top so that when we give the current state of what's going on, people know how we maps in the state of Missouri?
3:16
Well, as you had Catherine Hannaway on last week, as you mentioned, General Hannaway has done a great job of making sure Missourians are not disenfranchised and that they're able to vote on the same map in November that they were able to vote on in August.
3:31

Really, I would say a surprise decision by them last week that not only took that map off the table, but put a different map for Missourians to vote on in November, not giving anybody clarity, adding confusion to an already complex subject.
4:02
Very disappointed to see what the Missouri Supreme Court did in that instance.
4:06
As you mentioned, Attorney General Hannaway appealed on behalf of Missourians to the Supreme Court.
4:13
uh, last week.
8:45
How does that reflect Missourians more than the one that it replaced?
17:26
So, Governor, can you please take us kind of from the top so that when we give the current state of what's going on, people know how we... maps in the state of Missouri?
17:39
Well, as you had Catherine Hannaway on last week, as you mentioned, General Hannaway has done a great job of making sure Missourians are not disenfranchised and that they're able to vote on the same map in November that they were able to vote on in August.

18:28
As you mentioned, Attorney General Hannaway appealed on behalf of Missourians to the Supreme Court.
18:35
uh, last week, and that was considered over the weekend.
23:08
How does that reflect Missourians more than the one that it replaced?
0:35
What is, as many Missourians sit there and wonder whether or not this is the right move for the future of this state, what's your final and best pitch to the people of Missouri?
0:45
Well, good morning, Pete.
0:46
It's great to be on with you again.
0:47
I appreciate you giving me a chance to give us our last-minute pitch.
0:51
My best pitch is this.
0:53
If you want to, the average family will keep $3,000 more per year in their pocket.
0:59
That's money they can use for education, car repairs, maybe a vacation.
3:42
So if the sales tax rates can't increase, then how does this all get offset even as the revenue grows in the state of Missouri to phase this income tax out over time?
19:14
Mm-hmm.
19:14
Missouri is not that state.
19:16
Missouri is a conservative, Christian, family value state, a hardworking state.
19:21
We have a lot to sell when we look at the international economy, as well as our domestic economy, and opportunities for businesses to move here.
19:28
The last piece of the puzzle we need is great, competitive tax policy.
19:33
We believe eliminating the state's income tax gives us that competitive edge to couple with our great work ethic, our great location, all of the money we've invested in infrastructure across the state that businesses want to be in, seeing states ad- uh, ad- you know, invest in things that will help their business grow.
19:51
And these are the tools we need to be a state that's growing in population, not declining in population like the mass exodus we're seeing out of these blue states.
22:25
Wow
107:40
What's the latest?
107:42
Well, we're very fortunate to have a fantastic first responder community, Heidi.
107:46
Down in the Reynolds and Iron County area, we had a National Weather Service guy who, when I was down at the command center, was telling me 12 inches of rain in just a matter of hours in parts of the Arcadia Valley, and he has never seen that, that much rain in that short of a time.
108:01
So it was a, a, a very unique, uh, I would say historic, uh, storm that came through, uh, last week that really, you know, in the Ozarks when it rains, water only has one place to go, and it goes down into the valley.
108:14
In this case it was the Black River valley.
108:16
So we had our National Guard heroes out there, uh, Missouri's Task Force 1, which is a nationally recognized first responder community group from, uh, folks all over the state, as well as local fire officials, sheriffs, even volunteer fire departments all helping to get folks out of that flooded area and to safe zone.
108:36
Uh, unfortunately one of the camps, uh, the kids were at, you know, enjoying a summer camp, uh, they were stranded, uh, on a hill and surrounded by water.
110:06
Wow.
23:10
What's the latest?
23:12
Well, we're very fortunate to have a fantastic first responder community, Heidi, down in the Reynolds and Iron County area.
23:19
We had National Weather Service guy who when I was down at the command center was telling me 12 inches of rain in just a matter of hours in parts of the Arcadia Valley.
23:28
He has never seen that much rain in that short of a time.
23:31
So it was a very unique, I would say historic storm that came through last week that really, you know, in the Ozarks when it rained, water only has one place to go and it goes down into the valley.
23:44
In this case, it was the Black River Valley.
23:46
So We had our National Guard heroes out there, Missouri's Task Force One, which is a nationally recognized first responder,
28:07
You're not going to get very far.
0:55
What's the latest?
0:57
Well, we're very fortunate to have a fantastic first responder community, Heidi, down in the Reynolds and Iron County area.
1:04
We had National Weather Service guy who, when I was down at the command center, was telling me 12 inches of rain in just a matter of hours in parts of the Arcadia Valley.
1:13
He has never seen that much rain in that short of a time.
1:16
So it was a very unique, I would say, historic storm that came through last week that really, you know, in the Ozarks when it rained, water only has one place to go and it goes down into the valley.
1:29
In this case, it was the Black River Valley.
1:31
So We had our National Guard heroes out there, Missouri's Task Force One, which is a nationally recognized first responder,
5:52
You're not going to get very far.
8:36
What is, what does your schedule look like around the state of Missouri? Will you be, uh, the face of this over the next three weeks or so?
8:44
Well, multiple people were.
8:45
I was on a tele-town hall with, uh, hundreds and hundreds of people last night at 7:00 PM, uh, trying to walk through the, the real facts around that.
8:54
You know, ar- again, we, we campaigned on this, so we got elected by the people of Missouri because we said one of our plans to grow our economy and grow our population was to eliminate the income tax.
9:04
Uh, I think it took us a year to put that plan together with the input of a lot of stakeholders.
9:09
I think it's now that the legislature has passed it last session and it's on the ballot as appropriate.
9:13
It's a major policy change.
10:10
What's the biggest piece of misinformation you've seen out there on eliminating the state income tax in Missouri?
22:51
How are you addressing the concerns that voters have both of data centers and AI?
22:57
Yeah, you know, as President Trump says, AI is a space race of our time.
23:01
And you and I both know, you know specifically, there's a lot of enemies of our country that would like to, you know, thwart or let us have less in the AI realm and less technology so that they can have it and they can be more in control.
23:16
I think that's one of the key pieces of this conversation is some of the opposition comes from when you try to follow the money, you can't, absolutely.
23:25
But we also believe that in the data center space or any economic development space, that local municipalities and counties should be able to do what they need to do without the government, this case the state of Missouri, telling what they can and can't do.
23:39
The data center projects that we've announced so far in Missouri have totaled $25 billion with a B. That's the largest investment by almost 15 times that we've ever had in the state of Missouri in the history of our state.
23:52
The difference those dollars will make to the impacts of those communities is generational, it's life-changing.
27:48
When you look at what the administration has done to take down both crime and immigration in big cities, including St. Louis, how impactful has that been on your state?
15:26
I know we might have a little bit of beef because you are an Angus producer, right? [laughs]
15:30
Absolutely.
15:31
Well, uh, a little over 40 years ago, I bought my first set of cattle, and so I've been in it for a while.
15:36
And as any cattle producer would tell you, the la- uh, before the last five years, it's been a little bit of a challenging industry.
15:43
Uh, fortunately, the margins are much better the last four or five years, but all of agriculture goes up and down.
15:47
Row crop farmers having a little bit of a tough time now.
15:50
Uh, I suggest that they're, they're resilient.
16:17
What's been Missouri's approach to it's not here yet, but making sure that cattle here are safe?
0:34
So, um, why the phase out of the income tax on the August ballot with about, what? 69 days to go until election day.
0:44
Well, good morning, Pete.
0:45
It's always great to be on with you.
0:46
Sure.
0:47
I mean, that ...
0:48
I- I've said all along many times on your show that this will be the largest policy decision that differentiates the direction Missouri goes in the future that we've seen potentially in decades.
1:00
And as part of that policy decision, as you know, Missourians would vote to say we, um, would like to keep our money that we work for in our pockets and not let the government spend it.

7 MINS LATER

8:02
Why, um, why November for that issue when, you know, at least there's some conventional thought that November would be naturally a higher turnout, and that may be a, a tougher putt for you and for the pro-life side coming up here in the fall?
4:41
Joining us now, come on in, Governor, the Governor of Missouri, Governor Mike Kehoe.
4:48
Good morning and welcome to the Show Me State.
4:50
We're so happy you're here at the birthplace of the Mother Road, Route 66 in Springfield, Missouri.
4:56
On behalf of the state of Missouri and our six and a half million citizens, we want to present you the official key to Route 66.
5:03
We love
5:28
Yeah, there was a little
5:29
incident this morning when Al put his drapes open in the hotel room.
5:32
But other than that, it's been great.
