Are there a lot of like misconceptions around backflow that you hear from contractors, facility managers and homeowners? And if so, what are those?
2:59
Yeah, so, I mean, first it's just being educated about what backflow is.
3:03
So a lot of folks, you know, these devices get installed, they don't really understand what their purpose is.
3:10
So just being generally educated is the first step.
3:13
So podcasts like this are really helpful.
3:15
We do a lot of that education.
3:17
But some of the things we hear, there's debate about how much backflow protection is needed.
7:53
So how has backflow technology evolved over the past several years and what improvements have been made for installation, testing, maintenance, or just the long-term reliability better in general for these systems? Yeah.
7:56
But explain the ins and outs of a backflow system or a backflow valve, Mike.
8:01
Yeah, so basically backflows go on what are called cross connections.
8:06
So basically anywhere where regular drinking water can interact with non-potable water.
8:13
So the easiest way to think of this is like we were talking about the garden hose earlier, right? So if you take a garden hose, and let's say a lot of people do this, like you put it in your pool to fill the pool up or something, right? If there's a loss of pressure in the system, it can siphon water.
8:29
Everything that's in your pool right up into your home, your drinking water, and even into the surrounding homes in that area.
8:35
So that's just one example of backflow, like a back siphonage, that's called, when basically there's a loss of pressure on the system and bad things get sucked in.
8:45
Let me tell you, there's some pretty disgusting, gross things that can go in you don't think about that are connected to the plumbing systems.
10:20
Are there any innovations in testing, monitoring, backflow prevention devices that contractors should have on their radar?
