It all started with, uh, Mika's left hand being, uh, burned with a lighter, and, uh, the, she did have a significant burn on her, a third-degree burn on her left hand, and it took us, uh, into, it took us an undercover investigation to determine exactly how that burn had occurred, which was, uh, through a lighter being held up to her hand for an extended period of time.

It was the police theory that because of the, the burn that had, Mika had sustained to her left hand, it would've been very tough for, uh, both, uh, Marie Magoon and Spencer Jordan to explain this, uh, to her biological mother when she went back, when Mika went back to, uh, bio mom for the weekend.

Detective Mike Covilla said, in the end, the undercover operation revealed both Jordan and Magoon had participated in the torture and ultimately caused her death.

They were, they were both convicted of first-degree murder at the, uh, Supreme Court level, and that solidified the fact that both were equally involved, uh, in the murder of Mika.
