When they called you to join the band, did I hear you were a little reluctant at first?

Well, yeah, because I was just coming out of the Elvin Bishop Band.

It was early 1979.

My plan was I was getting ready to head to Miami to work on a solo album with Bill Simzik, the great Bill Simzik, who produced Filled Around and Fell in Love, as well as many, many other things.

That was my mindset.

Coming out of Elvin Bishop band and with my influences and my roots were more in blues and R&B and gospel.

I didn't really see how it would fit musically going into the Jefferson Starship.

So tell us about your big tour in Milan.

Um, I was thinking what would Joey make of that? Would, would he, would he be having a little bit of a chuckle at the end of the game about that? Or would he be like, "Oh, well, it's one of those things." He's very respectful of the opposition, but part of me, as a passionate Welshman, knowing Joey, he'd probably have a bit of a laugh.

Yeah, he probably would do.

That's, that's the Joey.

That's what he's like.

[laughs] I know, um, obviously played against England, uh, uh, many times as a, as a Welsh international both did.

So we were desperate to beat them, and we d- we did ever so well against them on numerous occasions.

So yeah, you always want to beat England 'cause they're the biggest, biggest team.

Is that still very much there in terms of the, that team spirit and that squad?
