Well, that's AST, and that's been our captive agency from day one, I think.
34:20
Yeah, which is great.
34:23
I sympathize a lot with the astronomers who are terrified of this and of all of the wildlife that could be harmed.
34:29
But honestly, we're talking about one, you know, practice.
34:35
You know, let's just set it up and see what happens kind of thing.
34:38
And we do have light pollution laws on Earth.
34:40
You know, we do have rules about keeping our dark skies dark.

17 MINS LATER

51:37
there?
1:57
Hanlon on the Path to Law School.
2:00
It's interesting because I'm the first lawyer on both sides of my extended family.
2:05
We had no, you know, it was sort of one of those, you know, be a doctor.
2:09
My parents were diplomats and I just had never, for me, a lawyer was like LA law and now I'm dating myself.
2:17
And when I went to college, I really anticipated that I would become, I would go into government service.
2:23
So when I graduated, I went to, I was able to work on the Hill as a staffer.
2:28
And everybody on the hill is a lawyer.

7 MINS LATER

9:07
It's not a government only or just a few government only engagement.
14:21
I mean, there are flags that have been planted there already, but explain how that works legally.
14:27
Absolutely.
14:27
So the Outer Space Treaty, which was negotiated and finally signed in the 1960s, in 1967 in particular, um, says that you cannot, a nation can't claim territory in outer space.
14:38
So you cannot go and say, "Hey, the Moon belongs to China.
14:41
The Moon belongs to United States and Canada." You can't do that.
14:45
But we do have, um, a, a provision which says, "But if you have an installation on the Moon, then you can sort of exclude people from that installation." And we also have this concept of due regard.
14:57
If you go to the Moon or any place else in space, you must implement your activities with due regard for the activities of others.
18:06
And you just wonder whether, whether the current legal framework is still adequate to deal with the time that we're living in right now.
