yeah so when um

you ask a student a high school student or just you know a regular person what a professor does they typically think of a teacher with a harder class right and that's not always the case right it largely depends on where you go to school and what type of institution you're looking at right? If you go to a community college or a liberal arts college, those professors are going to be more focused on teaching.

They're going to have larger teaching loads.

They're going to have classes throughout the day, and teaching is going to be more of their main focus, right? But when you start going out to research universities, we call these R1 and R2 universities, depending on the amount of research output that they do, professors' jobs really change from teaching to doing research.

So when you go to a large university like the University of Michigan, UCLA, Harvard, right, all those big-name universities, Those are research universities.

And those professors, they typically teach only a few classes a year, one to maybe two classes a semester, where the rest of their time is mostly focused on doing research and creating new knowledge, writing books, publishing academic papers.

So the type of experience that a student wants or might excel in, they need to look at what the job the professor is doing at the institution, right? If you are a student that needs a lot of hands-on work, access to your teachers and professors, a community college or a liberal arts college is probably going to be better for you.
