How do you approach designing spaces for this culture that continues to evolve?

The first thing is recognizing that you cannot freeze hip-hop culture because the moment you freeze hip-hop, you're taking away what makes hip-hop so powerful, which is responding in real time.

It is responding to social, economic, and political topics in real time.

In designing the hip-hop museum in the Bronx, This was in direct alignment with the executive director, Roger Buchano, from day one meeting him back in 2016.

He said, you know, Mike, when we design this museum, we have to make it as flexible as possible where we can.

We want to be able to tell the stories of hip hop's birth, but also talk about the new viral sensation that may come out at any moment.

So as far as the exhibits, that was our focus.

So how did you sort of think about those pieces?

Like, what is a, what is a static binary? Why is it valuable? Why is having a non-static binary potentially dangerous or problematic?

Sure.

Uh, so Bitcoin Core today ships, I guess what you could call sort of semi-static or nearly static binaries, where all of the sort of non-system related dependencies, so think like Boost or Libevent or ZeroMQ.

When we compile our release binaries, we sort of bundle all of that code into the binaries, and then when a user downloads Bitcoin Core to run on their system, our binary will reach out to their OS and sort of load a few libraries from disk.

Uh, so that's GCC-- Uh, sorry, glibc, uh, no, used to be libgcc, uh, maybe a few others.

Uh, what I would like to do in terms of making our binaries fully static, uh, is that when a user downloads bitcoind and runs it on their system, the bitcoind doesn't reach out for anything.

Basically, we would, as part of our release process, bake everything that we need to run as bitcoind into the binary that the user downloads.

Are there objections to this sort of approach, or is it just sort of a universally endorsed good?

I'm kind of mind blown.

Yeah.

And it's, you know, in the genius behind, I think this idea of like getting kids to explore it, if I can call it genius, because it's not, me or it's really the young kids connecting with the artistry that they love so again I can imagine which we haven't done one in Houston yet we gotta make this happen when the genius is already in our lyrics like Hip hop is talking about every topic, whether it's environmental injustices.

And I not only talked about it, but also like floated ideas for solutions.

The issue is that we spent a lot of time dancing to that music or bobbing our head to the music.

But, you know, let's really slow it down.

Let's print let's print off some of this stuff that people are imagining through lyricism.

I know the first time I met you, it was the chair with, remind me of the brands that you did that with.

It's the immediate answer to that question.

And added to that is, I don't think designers have fully grasped the idea that hip hop could be this transformational thing.

A lot of folks are consumers.

They love it.

They like the end product.

Right.

They're all knockoff.

Yeah

Um, so it's this time lapse video.

It's more of a performance piece.

Um, and it became, you know, a conversation piece, so people were doing photo shoots.

Uh, like some, you know, local artist, hip hop artists or, uh, rappers, they, uh, did music videos and incorporated the piece.

Unfortunately, someone did not agree with the message and had an alternative message and went in, put a strike through each one of the seconds.

So can you tell us about that?
