When you read through your father's notebooks, what kinds of thoughts in it struck you as profound? What kind of themes come out of this work that he was thinking about all of these years?

Well, I can divide that into two sort of my my own personal experience and then the ideas, his ideas that got rolling.

My personal experience was very moving.

And I write a little bit about this in the introduction in that this really was my father's main waking activity was reading, writing marginalia and writing in these legal pads.

I mean, hours and hours a day.

And so this was an activity he was doing most of the time when I saw him.
