bit about statistics, percentages of the children and adolescents who are struggling with things like depression and thoughts of suicide and make a suicide attempt and have a non-fatal attempt or you die by suicide?
6:07
I think I'll start with the depression piece.
6:08
So one of the really common misconceptions about suicide is that suicide is the result of untreated suicide.
6:15
symptoms of depression.
6:16
And what we know is that some people who experience symptoms of depression may have thoughts of suicide.
6:21
And many people who experience symptoms of depression don't have thoughts of suicide.
6:25
About 20 years ago, we really understood suicide to be a phenomenon really rooted in mental health.

10 MINS LATER

16:34
Melissa, can you talk a little bit about the best ways that we can help to prevent death by suicide?
4:29
Let's get into some of the things that a parent might see or hear in their child that should raise some flags in their head about the possibility that their child is thinking about suicide.
4:42
When I think about that, I think about what are the observable behaviors that are different from how your child or teen would typically interact with either their peers or their family members or go about their day-to-day life.
4:53
And some of these can be really subtle.
4:55
When I talk with suicide loss survivors, it's not uncommon to hear things such as it came out of the blue or we had no idea or there wasn't a change whatsoever.
5:03
And the reality is, is there's many different ways that individuals can lead to a suicide attempt.
5:10
So it's important to know that if you are a suicide loss survivor and you're listening, it doesn't mean that you missed something.
5:16
Thank you.
9:58
What does that mean? Can you give us more specific directives around that?
7:10
How would you describe, if you know, the Mackinac Island stop, and what does it offer on the shore excursions?
7:17
We're very lucky.
7:17
We've been sailing in the Great Lakes for a number of years, so we dock right in Mackinac Island.
7:22
We dock there.
7:23
Yep, some others have to tender in, so we're fortunate there.
7:27
The Grand Hotel has the longest covered porch, which I love.
7:31
I love the speed of Mackinac Island, and I think these days we need more of that as we rush around places like this conference with our phones all the time.
8:06
when we went there on school trips you know all the time but it's maybe then when you start to realize what you actually have that people value from around the world to go in and see these treasures
8:51
So if I were a new investor that didn't have a big budget, what's the price range we're looking at as entry level to get into a short-term rental in the market? And what are the type of properties that really have the best success?
9:06
OK, well, let's divide it up by each market that I serve.
9:09
St. Louis, I obviously know a lot more about because I've been dealing with that since the past year or a couple of years since I've been co-hosting.
9:15
What we're seeing there, our sweet spot is between about $350,000 and $600,000 as an entry price.
9:22
That's going to get you a large three-bedroom, four- or five-bedroom.
9:25
That is where the numbers shake out the best versus what you can buy the house for and what you can rent it for.
9:31
When we look at the smaller houses, there are some great deals to be found, but you typically can't rent them for enough.
13:51
What does an investor have to plan for for renovations on something when they're buying a house that's 100 to 150 years old?
4:38
Speaking of meeting people where they're at, when you look at more than two decades of recovery for somebody like me, who at one point struggled in his sobriety, do you have any magic sauce or anything that got you to 20 years? Because that seems so daunting for somebody who might be struggling early on.
5:05
Yeah.
5:06
The thing that my...
5:08
I did go to 90 Minis in 90 days.
5:11
I did all of that.
5:11
But my second sponsor, he gave me the wonderful gift of Hocus Pocus Change Your Focus.
5:19
Because it's like a dog with a bone.
9:36
Tell us about what that was like for you.
33:52
And fostering is such a great way to help an animal if you are not able to take a dog long term, right? Can you talk about which animals
34:03
tend to need foster homes the most this time of year? yeah absolutely so there isn't really one type of foster there's it could change week to week and we have a lot of extra animals in the shelter during the summers a lot of puppies and kittens who are too young to be adopted out and a lot of adult dogs and cats who need a place to recover rest let their personality kind of come out before they are up for adoption yeah
35:29
If someone is watching, can you tell us who makes for a good foster dog or cat parent and how they can help.
35:38
Yeah, absolutely.
35:39
So you do not need to be an expert.
35:42
Simply have the willingness and compassion and space to want to help animals during this important chapter in their life.
35:50
And we provide all the support and everything you need to be able to do so.
35:55
So nice and easy.

28:20
Uh, why not?
28:21
And, and what I said to the reporter that interviewed me, I never said, "I don't blame him." What I said was, "I don't believe that he killed his wife." What I believe, what I feel right now, and what I believe since finding out that he was found murdered, well, that he committed suicide, I believe his wife walked in and interrupted something or heard something or seen something that she wasn't supposed to see or know, and that's why she lost her life.
28:52
Just like-

Now, some might say, "Why are you so quick to defend somebody who, um, your granddaughter disappeared on his watch?" Um, and let me just set it up-
30:36
I'm not defending him at all.
30:38
My thing is you got two people that turned up dead, okay? In Mr.
30:42
Tatum's case, where they found him at, they searched that same very exact location when they first started searching for my granddaughter.
30:52
On Monday, Monday just passed, you get a tip that leads you right back to that location.
