12:56
Yeah,
12:56
no, I'm excited to be back on Cheap Seat.
12:58
Yes.
12:58
And I'm excited that Big Brother is back and we do have a few different surprises for everyone this year.
13:03
The house, bigger.
13:07
The season, longer.
13:11
The host, shorter.
16:12
I
37:18
So to paint the picture for people who have been living under a rock and have no idea what it is, Mel, essentially there are a bunch of housemates living in a house together and you just watch the drama unfold, right?
37:29
Yeah.
37:29
Well, they call it the original social experiment.
37:32
And so this season we have 14 housemates living under Big Brother's watchful eye and they're stripped of all of their luxuries, right? They just have a suitcase with everything that's been pre-approved so they can't sneak anything in that Big Brother won't allow.
37:47
And they are cut off from the outside world, their friends, their family, their phones.
37:52
It's a lot.
37:52
And, of course, Big Brother within that throws in some more twists and turns just to keep things really interesting.
38:02
And it's so very easy for us to judge on the outside world going, why would they do that? You go a little loopy, right?
1:15
So to paint the picture for people who have been living under a rock and have no idea what it is, Mel, essentially there are a bunch of housemates living in a house together and you just watch the drama unfold, right?
1:26
Yeah.

Well, they call it the original social experiment.

They're friends, they're family, they're phones.
1:59
And it's so very easy for us to judge on the outside world going, why would they do that? You go a little loopy, right? Yeah.
3:09
So what was, do you have a favourite moment, favourite scene that happened in season one? A favourite argument?
3:18
A favourite argument.
3:20
You know, I really loved, there was so much from season one that I loved.
3:27
And I think what I took away from season one is that I really, I already know how much fans love Big Brother.
3:35
I know this, right? But just to see how loyal and fierce they are is incredible.
3:41
And I noticed it with myself with obviously the roof saga from season one where I was like constantly being rained on and people being like, get this girl a roof.
3:49
Mal deserves a roof.
8:46
sure you want to be as informed as possible you're you're heading it up what time do you arrive then what time do you get to what's the process yeah talk me through like what happens as you get there
10:45
Like, have you already spied a few people that we should be keeping our eyes on?
10:50
Yeah, there's a few singletons in there, which I'm like, hmm.
10:55
But also last season, I never would have picked who did end up dating one another.
11:00
Any washed-up
FitzyHOST
11:27
watched Love Island, for the
11:28
record.
11:29
You've never watched Big Brother either, mate.
11:30
Yes, I have, man.
27:47
It feels like you're in the house.
27:49
Yeah, I know.
27:51
But then there's moments where you check yourself and you're like, am I actually watching people sleep right now? And I think that that's a real shared moment that we all have at some point, which I love.
28:03
Where we go, oh, God.
28:04
It's super addictive, the live stream.
28:06
It got to a point where, I mean, people on social media, especially on TikTok, they were doing recaps of the live streams.
28:12
Like, okay, this is the last 24 hours on the live stream.
29:44
He's a true star.
2:54
Yeah, so what was, do you have a favourite moment, favourite scene that happened in season one? A favourite argument?
3:05
Favorite argument.
3:06
You know, I really loved, there was so much from season one that I loved.

3:27
And I noticed it with myself with obviously the roof saga from season one where I was like constantly being rained on and people being like, get this girl a roof.
6:30
Like, what time do you arrive?
58:13
Would it be like that in the Australian one?
58:16
Fights? Do you want them, Suze? It's good to watch.
58:19
It's kind of drama.
58:20
Well, there's a lot of drama, but you never know what the housemates are going to give, right? Because even last season when I think back to the housemates and I had tipped who I thought, oh, if there's going to be any hookups, I reckon it's these two.
58:30
And I was so wrong.
58:32
So this season you just don't know who is going to be combative and have... like maybe say some outrageous stuff.
58:39
You don't know who's going to hook up.
LuttsyHOST
61:30
You
4:47
Would it be like that in the Australian one?
4:50
Fights? Do you want them suits? It's good to watch.
4:54
It's kind of drama.

You don't know who's going to hook up.
LuttsyHOST
6:20
You know what I'm saying?
RodHOST
6:54
When you look through who you're going to be welcoming into the house tonight, is there the chance there's going to be someone, because there's always someone who annoys us, but is there a chance there's going to be someone who we really fall in love with who's a really authentic personality?
7:09
Oh, I think there's going to be a few.
7:12
I reckon a few tonight that you will see that you'll fall in love with straight away.
7:17
And I think there might even be some that you think are questionable, but that's what's so great about the show because first impressions don't always last.
7:26
You know, like last year, I'm sure there was like, I, I, for example, would not have picked that Coco was going to win.
7:33
Right.
7:34
But she just really became herself in that house and, and we all fell in love with her.
RodHOST
8:36
It can be a journey of self-discovery, Mel.
24:08
let there be a story about what a
24:09
bitch I was.
24:11
Actually, no, but I do.
24:12
Oh, wait, I've got a story I want to tell you, but side to that because you were not a bitch.
24:16
But I do remember I was once at the desk eating like a schnitzel sandwich and it was like 10 in the morning.
24:21
Stunning.
24:21
Just like I was starving.
26:16
Was it you? Yeah.
21:54
Not the only exciting news this week.
21:55
No! Okay, this is a very exciting announcement.
21:58
Some big theatre news, because we already know that the movie The Castle is coming to the stage.
22:02
But yesterday we received a special cast announcement.
22:06
Ooh! There we go, so we've got young actor Ed Oxenbold, who will make his stage debut as Dale Kerrigan, and Justin Smith and Christy Whelan-Brown will be playing the blood parents, Daryl and Sal Kerrigan.
22:17
And I went along to meet the cast.
22:20
It's Mel Tracina, cultural correspondent of The Cheap Seats, out the front of Her Majesty's Theatre, where The Castle, the stage play, will be performed March 2027.
24:33
The cast will be on stage next year.

21:57
[laughs]
21:58
Um, host Claudia Winkleman ultimately decides who should be a traitor or a faithful.
22:02
But the celebs went in with their own ideas, like the You're Beautiful singer James Blunt.
23:28
Incredible.
23:28
All right.
23:29
Out of all the contestants, only three are chosen as traitors, and their job is to remain undetected as they kill off the other players, known as faithfuls.
23:37
Actor and author Richard E.
23:39
Grant was chosen as a traitor and wasted no time in beginning the deception.
24:26
Yeah.
24:27
I like them with crackers.
24:28
[laughs]...
24:34
Kitchen Rules, the tension is reaching breaking point.
24:37
[upbeat music] [food splats] [audience laughs] What's wrong, Carly? Are you all right? I guess you'd call that a shape seat.
24:48
[audience laughs] Where's that button? [laughs]
speaker_7SOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
25:19
So, yeah.
25:22
What do you mean, some people enjoy it? I've never met anyone who doesn't love a chicken parma.
29:57
No, lovely to see you, MT.
29:58
Alright, we need to start with the MTV VMAs, which aired live yesterday.
30:04
The show opened with a return performance from none other than Madonna, who last performed at the ceremony 23 years ago.
30:12
So, you can imagine how monumental this was.
30:16
Let's take a look.
30:28
Nice that her dancers have been having their multivitamins.
30:31
Sorry, is that the VMAs or my 12th birthday laser tag?
30:35
Also, I feel like I need to do this.
17:34
Where do we start this week?
17:35
Well, if you've ever wanted to watch a show that's MasterChef meets SAS Australia, then do I have a show for you.
17:42
The debut season of Deadliest Dinners Australia is releasing weekly episodes on Binge and is hosted by extreme outdoor adventurer and award-winning chef Mario Calpo.
17:52
The show's premise is to catch your food or die trying.

the rooms? What does that mean?
23:39
It means instead of Lady Whistledown, it's Lady Toolsdown.
23:43
That's good.
23:44
Hey, guys, guys, stop laughing.
22:14
It's been a big day in showbiz.
22:16
Huge.
22:17
Let's start with the 78th annual Emmy Awards, which were on today.
22:21
Now, this is like the Logies, but for American television.
22:24
Wow.
22:25
And Lauren Autostar, Mariska Hargitay hosted.
22:28
She began with a parody of the song I Love Rock and Roll.
26:07
If he adds his right nut, he can add Pepsi and garlic bread.
11:42
like your voice.
11:43
It's me singing.
11:44
You sound great.
11:45
They probably put some filters on me like I'm Charlie XCX or T-Pain.
11:50
But, yeah, it was actually the most nerve-wracking thing because I feel like singing is where I am my most nervous.
11:57
It's
12:47
Anything else you can tell me?
12:48
Brisbane, we know that.
21:36
I
21:36
have, yeah.
21:37
So with another season starting, I've been prepping by watching the current season of Big Brother USA.
21:42
So for the first time this year, let's do some...
21:49
Alright, so the 28th season of Big Brother USA is currently airing.
21:53
That's a major feat.
21:55
28 seasons.
24:09
Would there be Bibles and volcanoes in your Big
19:52
you ever compete in any
19:53
pageants? Yeah, I feel like my mum, I think, put me in for, you know, when I was a baby.
20:01
Like, most beautiful baby at Gladstone Park Shopping Centre.
20:05
Wow! You peaked early.
20:07
Oh no, I didn't win.
20:34
Where do we start?
20:35
OK, well, you guys know that I take my role as cultural correspondent very seriously and I don't just cover TV.
20:41
Over the weekend, I listen to a podcast.
6:11
The humour is great.
6:11
Well, I watched 9 to 5 for the first time after Dolly's passing.
6:17
And I've realized because I obviously, when Dolly passed, I was like, oh, that's a big loss.
6:22
She's an icon.
6:23
Yeah.
6:24
And I know her more for Miley Cyrus and the fact that it's her godmother, right? But then once Dolly passed and I started seeing all these tributes flow, my feed on my socials was just delivering all these videos of Dolly Parton.
6:37
And I...

7:27
So everywhere I go, I drag a net.
LuttsyHOST
41:27
It's so
41:27
addictive.
41:29
I loved it last year because the house was built in the exhibition building at Dreamworld.
41:34
And my change room was literally under the same roof as the Big Brother roof.
41:40
So I could hear them if they were talking really loud.
41:42
I could smell when they were cooking dinner.
41:45
Like, I was obsessed with that place.
42:37
Oh, do
LuttsyHOST
4:42
You know what I mean?
4:43
Oh, absolutely.
4:45
I would jump onto TikTok, and there would be TikTokers telling me about the Big Brother house, things that I didn't even know, 'cause they were watching 24/7.
LuttsyHOST
5:44
Yeah.
5:45
And my change room was literally in the same, under the same roof as the Big Brother roof.
5:50
So I could hear them if they were talking real loud.
23:29
Exactly.
23:30
Ah, so if you can support them, we'll put a link on our socials.
23:34
All right.
23:34
Let's start with, um, one of my new obsessions, Alone Australia on SBS.
23:39
So even though it's been 31 days living completely alone in the Arctic Circle of Northern Finland, there's always something exciting happening.
25:56
Oh.
25:56
And it has te- short, 10-minute episodes of Architectural Digest, and it's called Open Door.
26:02
So it's where a celebrity shows us inside their home.
18:15
What, you think you're the only one who can bring a microphone to this fucking thing? No way, Jose.
18:19
I think we just found the traitor.
18:22
I want to touch it, but I know that's inappropriate.
18:24
No, touch it.
18:24
Can I? I want you to touch it.
18:25
Which part? This here? Yeah.
18:28
Oh, that's nice.
20:29
There were
