That's the granular level that really shows up, like you're saying, when you're door-knocking and in local government.
5:39
government.It is.
5:42
And you know, I find, like, we are really polarized right now as a country, as a state, as, you know, in my community.
5:48
And so, um, you know, if the conversation is-- I actually had a, a few really weird conversations, um, you know, calling me like, uh, my whole party's socialist and, uh, I, I'm, I'm un-American and, and I said, "Listen, sir, I'll stop you right there.
6:05
I can't think of a more American thing to do than to knock on your door and ask you for your vote." So we don't have to agree on everything, and we certainly, we certainly don't.
6:14
Um, but let's, let's talk about what, what it is to be an American and what, what it is to live in a democracy, and this is it.
6:21
This is democracy, you know, in full force, in action.
7:38
So as much as you'd like to, to s- kind of set this up.
4:09
And so we're moving forward with a lot of different programs.
4:13
Thank you.

Megan? I represent an organization in Fredericksburg, Virginia, that started 20 years ago by the downtown churches in Fredericksburg as a response to an unhoused community that literally landed at the The churches had individually begun to respond to different needs with different ministries.
4:39
And in 2005, they said, you know, we could do more together than we ever could do apart.
4:45
And so for 20 years, we started much as a basic needs organization, and we have evolved to care for all parts of human flourishing.
4:56
That includes housing, basic needs, income development, spiritual care, health care, you know, to the point that we now are actually working on a supportive housing neighborhood where people will be able to live affordably, have purpose, and grow meaningful relationships.
5:14
A big part of our understandings about homelessness is that people become homeless when they run out of relationships.

And so, you know, it's not just visiting the center and visiting the Prospect Avenue neighborhood, but, you know, there's a story to be told in Charlottesville.
