I suppose I'm wondering if federal parliament wanted to create genuinely workable sex-based protections and rights, what would be the interaction between federal law, state and territory law, and the identity documents those laws produce?

If Federal Parliament defined sex as a biological constant and someone in a state or territory was able to change their identity documents so that they no longer recorded a biological constant, then the Sex Discrimination Act would not protect someone based on the identity document.

However, they would protect the biological sex.

However, it becomes very difficult to demonstrate or prove someone's biological sex if they have been able to change all of their identity documents.

So that becomes perhaps an unworkable part of the law that Parliament's going to have to think about.

The Federal Parliament is also able to override state legislation if it is impossible for someone to follow both at the same time.

or if the federal parliament legislates and the nature of the legislation or the wording of the act says they want to cover the whole area.

Do you think clarity from Parliament would be helpful from a legal perspective?

So we actually read the book as a class before it was published officially, and they loved it.

They gave her a standing ovation.

They asked if they could buy copies of it.

They have been really supportive and kind of rallied around her.

They told kids in other fifth grade classes that their teacher needed to read it to their class, and it's kind of been a positive spread through our grade network.

as they've explored how they can use these tools as well.
