But then how are they going to meet what they agreed with the attorneys general for the amount of production that they've promised?
18:30
Yeah, and Wall Street is a little bit tentative on the stock this morning, as you might well imagine, with more than $80 billion in debt.
18:41
Some of their bonds are now junk bonds.
18:43
You know, the company expects $70 billion a year in revenue.
18:47
So, you know, if they can steady the ship, you know, they do have a path here.
18:53
But I think that the cuts will be, you know, staggering um they've said that a lot of it will not be personnel it will be like tech stacks and what they call rationalizing the real estate you know cbs is in um the gower offices which is not a known building and um and hbo's in culver city so they do have a footprint here that they can you know shrink down to the two main lots because as you pointed out the deal with rob bonta requires that they own these two major lots on Melrose Avenue, the Paramount lot, and in Burbank, the historic Warner Brothers lot.
19:33
So there's going to be a lot of, I guess, just apprehension among the workforce.

10 MINS LATER

29:49
Has anything been said, though, about combining the resources of CBS News with CNN, which would make each of the entities potentially stronger, particularly just given the numbers at CBS News?

32:08
You love kitty cannons.
32:10
I just, with a tear in my eye.
32:14
No, actually, I was actually trying to scroll Twitter for the first, like, few minutes of the match, trying to get a good view on Willow's entrance because I hadn't seen it properly.
32:22
But yeah, no, The Brave Knight, Willow and all that, which was read by Will Washington's daughter, apparently.
32:27
I loved all that.
32:29
Her big fairy tale castle.
32:30
Oh, I just thought it was perfect.
HarleyHOST
35:09
She won this time.
34:00
What's at stake for CBS and CNN here, and how do they play in the overarching narrative around this potential merger?
34:09
Well, I mean, that's a great question because, you know, most quarters people think that the Ellisons will merge the news operations.
34:19
Obviously, they'll keep CBS News as a division that will, you know, fill the broadcast network and CNN will continue to be a cable channel and also a very robust network.
34:30
digital side around the world.
34:32
But there have been concerns since David Ellison acquired Paramount last August and then installed Bari Weiss as the editor-in-chief of CBS.
34:43
There's been a lot of shakeups, including of 60 Minutes, one of the most trusted brands in television, and people pushing back, saying like she's trying to force the news coverage into a posture where it's more sympathetic to President Trump.
35:03
Now, to be sure, there hasn't been evidence that false Narratives have been injected into CBS News' reporting.
36:02
Or would the Democrats have the same antitrust issues?
23:00

3:05
Let's talk about the job losses that might result and how people in Hollywood are feeling about it.
3:11
Pretty lousy.
3:12
There are protests ongoing in New York today to try to raise awareness that they, that Hollywood film workers and just cultural a- aficionados feel that this deal would be devastating for creativity, for Hollywood jobs.
3:29
There was a letter that's been signed by more than 4,000 people who work in Hollywood, including some very prominent names like Ben Stiller and Kevin Bacon, and people resoundly feel like this merger is not going to help the community, that it's gonna lead to fewer jobs and fewer television programs and potentially a, a degradation of news quality.
4:33
Mixed to poor in what way?
4:35
Think about Warner Brothers Discovery.
4:37
This company will have changed three times in a decade.
4:42
The original Time Warner was sold to phone giant AT&T.
17:00
And is it entirely coincidental it gets cancelled? They said, for financial reasons, just before this deal goes through.
17:07
Yes.
17:07
I mean, again, the timing is very curious.
17:10
And CBS has been quite insistent that the late night programming block has really begun to struggle financially.
17:19
They're not getting the younger men that those shows once did.
17:23
But the fact that they, you know, got rid of the show, or at least it's going to be on through next May, but the fact that they announced the that this show will be cancelled, really, really became a much bigger news story than CBS intended.
18:32
Is this a huge monopoly now of entertainment?
18:36
Not really, because in the last few years, you've seen Amazon come in in a big way, Apple come in in a big way, and Netflix has really become the most dominant streamer.
