all of these materials have they followed you when you then formalized your education and started working with design

very much so they still do today they are part of my library of materials they're part of my palette stone granite i mean i've worked with the quarries in cornwall i've produced furniture in granite and i've worked in on the beaches even, using the beach as workshop now.

So I go back to the beach, not to make an ephemeral sand castle, but to make a negative sand castle, almost like a sand pit, but in the shape of a piece of furniture, which I then pour metal into.

Tell us about that, because I really like that project.

It's a project that dates back to 2006.

I was a student at the Royal College of Art.

My first pewter stool was made in February of that year, 2006.
