Where do you stand on that?
3:15
Yeah, that's certainly fine.
3:16
If he, he makes that pledge, I think that it's something that we would look at too to not, uh, look-- trade individual stocks.
3:22
I think it is interesting though that he's running an a-attack ad on me right now saying that I'm corrupt because I traded stocks while I was working in Washington, and I have four individual stocks.
3:36
Now, I'm fortunate that they're worth around forty thousand dollars based on public reporting.
3:41
You can go look at that yourself if you'd like to.
3:43
But it's not multi-millions of dollars.

Can you elaborate a little bit more on how you would, you know, A, potentially, uh, find some uses for AI within the SOS due to the, B, probably more and more we try to head off some of the potential, uh, malign uses of AI?
Laura Merrifield WilsonMODERATOR
25:32
Engling, we'll start with you.
25:34
The securities division is primarily a consumer protection function.
25:38
It's making sure that when folks like you and I, uh, are working with, uh, any type of finances or someone who's dealing in finances, uh, that they understand the regulations and that they understand how to operate well inside of those regulations so that you and I are not defrauded.
25:52
It's a very important part of the office.
25:54
I think it's also important to make sure that the Prosecutor Assistance Unit, which was stood up not too long ago, is leaned into heavily, so when you see fraud in securities all around the state, wherever it happens, that you can send someone with expertise from the secretary of state's office directly to that county to help them further investigate and then prosecute that fraud in securities.
26:16
We also have to make sure that we're working with those that are regulated in the industry and the educators in the office of secretary of state to make sure they have a excellent relationship, that they understand who their regulators are and then how to follow those rules because we know they wanna do good work here in the state of Indiana, they are doing good work h- here in the state of Indiana, and we wanna give them that further opportunity.

Now to clarify, Mr. Engling, you still have the 60 seconds to address the initial question, plus 30 additional section- seconds as part of the rebuttal since you were named.
49:55
Thank you.
27:22
How did you get back to Indiana from Washington and what made that the right decision?
27:26
Yeah, so I'll finish the time in Washington.
27:29
So one, it was with the Chief Elections Committee.
27:31
Then I worked for leadership where I was the director of member services for the speaker, leader and then speaker.
27:37
And a lot of that role was working with the membership of the House to determine what do they have as a priority, what do their districts have as a priority, and how do you put that whole puzzle together when you're getting legislation across the finish line on the House floor.
27:51
So really good experience on building those coalitions around good policy.
27:56
And then, you know, part of the reason we came home, the biggest part for me is that one, most of my family's here.

59:46
So if people want to learn more about you, if they want to learn more about your story, how can they do that?
10:44
We have a friend of the show that's
10:46
deep into agriculture.
10:47
Oh, wonderful.
10:47
Yes.
10:49
So it's a good experience just to be able to do that, but learned a lot from all of those jobs because for the last three, three and a half years, my job has been traveling the state of Indiana.
10:59
talking with folks, listening to people, hearing what we're doing really well.
11:03
And I'm a huge proponent that Indiana is doing a lot of things really well.

7 MINS LATER

18:14
Yeah.
