Episode 11: AI Makes Bad Direction Cheaper (with Maury Postal)

Karen DoakHOST
So do you think that speed pressure makes the brief discipline better or worse? And do you think that AI makes bad direction cheaper to execute and therefore more dangerous as well?

Maury PostalGUEST
I think part of it is, like, last year or two years ago, you know, the idea of what an AI could do was exciting because it felt like it was useful.

Maury PostalGUEST
And often, it didn't feel like a shortcut, right? Like, it felt like it was someone you could work with.

Maury PostalGUEST
Instead of doing more research faster, or pressure testing an idea before you have a discussion about it but i also think that that messy process we just talked about is actually really critical to figuring out why things work or don't work and so yes ai makes things cheaper and faster to kind of get to fail at make decisions about but you're not seeing how it impacts the other factors that aren't being addressed because none of these tools are sophisticated enough to be a human like they always oversimplify.

Maury PostalGUEST
If they start with the answer, and I think they are used as a way to moderate groupthink.

Maury PostalGUEST
And I think what I really mean is, like, if someone has an idea in their head, like, I always like this thing of, you know, feel luxury.

Maury PostalGUEST
It's like, well, that means absolutely nothing right now because, you know, is luxury like a feeling? Sure.

Maury PostalGUEST
But if you can stay in a luxury residence inn and get, you know, something from a luxury vending machine, then there isn't really an idea of luxury that exists to all of us.
