So what kind of person almost in your soul do you think you need to be to operate in that sort of line of work?

I don't know.

I mean, I can only talk about my own experience.

And I do think casting's changed a lot over the last, in particular, maybe 20 years.

I would have started with Drew Theatre Company, which I was very lucky to join in 1984 under the leadership of Carrie Hines, who was an up-and-coming, about to be hugely international director.

So that was a blessing of a job for me.

I couldn't have landed on my feet more.

And, you know, kind of speaking of that subtlety there, another thing I really wanted to ask you about is, um it's probably one of my favorite projects that you worked on which was once and i only kind of came to that film quite recently actually i hadn't seen it um when it was initially released or um even a few years back but it's interesting to me i mean again like amazing performances but again so subtle so nuanced so so quiet i'm wondering for you as a casting director is that more difficult to cast because I guess they are kind of niche and specific in that they're musicians but nothing about their performances are loud and flashy they could kind of be very
