So how do you approach cardiovascular risk assessment when deciding whether to start cholesterol medications? I think this

is a timely subject when you speak about updated guidelines.

We received updated guidelines a couple of months ago from the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association in March of 2026.
2:01
Totally updating the approach to assessment, risk assessment, and trying to identify patients that would benefit from intervention to help regulate cholesterol levels.
2:13
And so we can speak about that a little bit today because it's changed my approach to determining which patients might benefit from lipid lowering therapies.
2:24
Probably the most significant change for these guidelines is that there has been a new risk calculator that is recommended to predict a person's 10-year risk for future cardiovascular events called the PREVENT equation.
2:43
And it replaces the prior risk equation, which was called the pooled cohort equation.

Statins often being first line therapy, but how many clinicians struggle with the statin hesitancy or intolerance? How do you handle that in practice?
