So if you had to break down what their respective platforms are, you know, what they're fighting for with regards to how they see the future of Israel going, How different are they?
4:29
Well, Netanyahu is really campaigning on his experience, that longevity I was just talking about.
4:36
He's known in many parts of Israel as Mr.
4:39
Security.
4:40
He presents himself as the man who can keep Israelis safe.
4:44
Now, that reputation obviously took a huge battering on October 7, which was the deadliest day in Israel's history.
4:52
But he's tried to build back that reputation with wars that have followed.
8:48
So walk us through the growing threat in the last couple of weeks alone of resumed strikes between the US, Israel and Iran, and how Netanyahu is sort of playing off this threat.
1:04
So what is in this bill and why is it so controversial?
1:08
Yes, I think this really went a bit under the radar.
1:10
Uh, there was a lot happening in the past week of Parliament.
1:14
Gambling reforms are being passed, uh, huge changes to the NDIS.
1:19
Uh, there, there was a lot going on, so this, uh, didn't get as much attention as I think it, uh, really deserved.
1:26
This has been in the works for a little while, over a year.
1:30
New legislation which is expanding what's called ASIO's compulsory questioning powers.
3:33
So tell us about that and I guess if that's significant.
6:27
Uh, I mean, is this all, is this all a little bit overblown, or are we getting ahead of ourselves if we're [laughs] talking about Pauline Hanson as prime minister?
6:35
Uh, I don't think it's so much a matter of getting ahead of ourselves, but I think it is a turning point of everyone waking up and realizing we have to take her very seriously.
6:45
Um, I think we went through this, uh, the world did, uh, in the United States, uh, with Donald Trump, and sites like the Huffington Post famously were covering him, uh, as an entertainment story.
6:57
And his stories about Donald Trump's presidential run were badged as entertainment because it was seen as not serious.
7:04
Uh, and then he ended up winning.
7:06
I think the same is happening here with Pauline Hanson, where the whole political, media establishment is realizing you have to take her seriously, uh, at the very least as an opposition leader, potentially, in the next term.
7:21
Uh, or possibly prime minister, even though she herself, as Paul said, is prevaricating about whether she really wants to claim that mantle, because that will change the way everyone views her sh- she and her policies, and her candidates will be subjected, uh, to a lot more scrutiny.
