What are the challenges in that spot? And how come you're not really able to do that in that situation? How difficult it is for the quarterback?

Two things to that question.

The first part is that there's a part of the playbook that we do lose any way you look at it.

And I'm sure this is for most teams.

When you have the strength of your quarterback, a lot of that is directed towards what they do well.

So if there's areas of his game that when you lose him, you lose that part of the playbook.

But it's not a massive number to where you can't run an offense.

To see that play out and you kind of be a little bit removed from it, what is that like?

What did you like best about Jackson before he came back and watched it? Probably the biggest thing is what we talked about last week when we were here.

You guys were asking, what do we want to see from him? He was calm.

He was composed.

He made plays when plays were needed.

The moment was never too big for him.

I wasn't really sure going into it.

How much do you think the success that Jackson had in the pocket sort of signifies the growth that he's probably made, you know, from year one to year two, like in the work you guys did this offseason?

... to game plan, to call plays.

Yeah, that's really some of the, the, the, the, the best times for us as, as coaches is to put together what we've seen from the whole way back to OTAs with these guys to now, um, really doing a lot in training camp to see what they can digest and, and see what we're good at.

And we honestly don't know yet.

We'll know after, uh, Sunday night where we stand as an offense, and that's the exciting part is I- you hear a lot of these coaches talk about whether it's in college, they don't have preseason games, so they go out and they don't know who they are.

We at least have preseason games to get an idea of what we think we can be.

But then you're going in week one, you're going against some, you know, again, we're going against a, a defense, a defensive coordinator, um, that is the first time calling plays for him and putting together his scheme.

And so we don't know what we'll see, you know? And, and just like them, they don't know what w- what they'll see with us.

Uh, what, uh, how have you seen him embrace kind of the new Odell, which is, you know, not the number 100 target receiver that Malik is going to be, uh, his new role? How have you seen him embrace that?

Yeah.

You know? And you gotta know where your hots are, you gotta know where you're going with the football, understanding that part of it, and then you can take, like, the- the (clears throat) ability to make the special throws and just know when that's gonna happen.

And- and now when I got back in '22, uh, as the quarterback coach, and then '23, '24, the last two years as coordinator, I've really gotten to see him understand the student of the game part of not just understanding to be a master of protections.

Now, his leadership, um, what he's learned through you, Trav, and your guys' time together of, like, how to- how to lead the players, but then also how to lead the coaches, like us, that are with him.

Like, how- the communication part of, like, "Listen, y- you might be explaining a certain route a certain way to a guy or a young guy, but also, um, this is how I see it, this is how we see it.

Think about, you know, doing things this way." And so, like, he gets why we're doing the big picture, but from, again, a- a player's perspective, "Think about it from this way or that way," he's grown that way.

He woulda never done that at his early years, you know? There's a lot of things he didn't know.
