5:15
Let's talk about that.
5:17
Yeah, absolutely.
5:17
So your real property taxes are, in South Carolina they are ad valorem property taxes, meaning that you pay based on the value of your property.
5:27
So the county will come around every so often and assess the value of your property.
5:32
You've got the ability to challenge that assessment if you think they valued it too high or, and are causing you to pay too much in taxes.
5:40
But the taxes that you pay is based on the value, and the reason that it's done that way is so that you are spreading the tax across the community equally according to the values of the property, rather than just picking one particular person to bear more of the tax burden than another person.
5:57
You do it based on the same percentage, based on the value of everybody's home.

14 MINS LATER

19:33
Mm-hmm
3:20
What was your first reaction reading the opinion? Uh, anything part of it that jumped out, immediately told you, "OMG, this changes everything"?
3:30
Yeah, so, uh, immediate reaction was, uh, maybe relief, uh, that I think that the, the industry dodged a bullet.
3:38
Um, and it was, uh, you know, the gun was loaded, it was, it was pointed, uh, right at the industry.
3:45
Um, and I think we talked last time, uh, there was some discussion even during the oral argument that, uh, that the case really if, if the justices sided with the, uh, petitioner, Mr. Pung, really could have spent, uh, meant the end of tax sales in the United States, uh, at least as we, we know them today.
4:05
And so, uh, there was, there was some relief that we, we, we dodged that outcome.
4:10
Um, as I have, uh, thought more about the case, though, um, I, I, I really am not sure that the case is really a win for the industry as a whole.
4:23
I think that there are some landmines that are, uh, out there and, um, unfortunately I think that this is not the last word on these issues.

25 MINS LATER

29:26
Um, do, do you agree that's kind of where this is gonna end up in lit- in, in post, post, uh, Supreme Court litigation's gonna be deciphering what was reasonable under the cir- under the circumstances for, for conducting the auction itself?
