Did you ever sit down with him and have those conversations, father and son, like origin story? Is there a wall? Was he taking bits and pieces from his own life? Do you know where the first original idea and the germ of the idea came from?
99:20
Yeah.
99:21
I mean, it probably...
99:23
It all started when we moved to Gisborne in the 1970s, mid-1970s, and we moved into a back valley road, which is just behind town here in Gisborne.

The property was just a small holding, so it was only four acres, something like that, and he only had sort of a handful of sheep and a couple of house cows and some chickens.
99:47
But it was what gave – what was happening around him, I think, really gave him the idea to turn those into a few funnies.
99:55
And, yeah, it sort of snowballed from there.

It was like, pick up the paper, read Fort Rock Flats.
2:03
there in the middle of town.
2:04
Yeah, it was conjured up about 10 years ago by the mayor at the time.
2:09
Pride in Gisborne, which was a trust that was all sort of self-funded and Weta Workshop did it.
2:16
The people who do the Lord of the Rings and Avatar.
2:21
I think they do all kinds of stuff like that.
2:24
And they did a great grand job.
2:26
It took them about a year to do the bronze.

1:03
But tell us how this one was picked and how you came across it.
1:08
Yeah, there are treasure troves of his work around the place in the National Archive, mostly now.
1:15
But this one came about because New Zealand Water Safety had the pictures from the 1980s which was a sort of a similar kind of campaign for water safety then up on the wall and glenn who's the head honcho there um was sitting back in his office from what i understand and looking up and wondering how to go about promoting water safety and decided to to give it a rejig and and the prince sort of been brought back to life and it is a classic as you say
2:00
Why has it been a cause that you've long supported? Oh,
2:05
it's just such a great cause to get behind.
2:08
And obviously, it's so important.
2:10
Some are coming up.
2:12
it's going to be a long hot summer and there's going to be a lot of, there are, there are going to be a lot of people out there in the water on, in boats and surfing and swimming and rivers and all the places we love.
