But what they didn't realize that, um, McAlpine and the National Trust had decided to part company, and so by the time the IRA got round to putting the bomb in front of West Green, Lord McAlpine had left.

So the, uh, National Trust and McAlpine had some, um, differences of opinion of how the, the garden should look.

And so, um, McAlpine had left, the National Trust, um, the IRA put the bomb out, and then, um, that was it.

You know, the house was blown up, and, uh, so the National Trust didn't have a tenant, but they had a ruined house and a ruined garden.

Um, so the National Trust, uh, decided that they would fix up the basics, which was like the foundations and the roof and re-glaze, and then find, try and find somebody to restore it at their own expense, and then, um, let, then let the National Trust people in.
