Perhaps you can start off by telling me what actually is a medical report and how does it differ from clinical notes we write in everyday practice?
2:49
Oh, that's a really great place to start, Gavin.
2:52
People often think they're the same thing, but they're definitely not.
2:55
Clinical notes, we write those to support patient care, don't we? So it's a contemporary record about what's happening during the consultation, what the patient told you, what you found on examination, your diagnosis, your management plan.
3:11
And I guess it's written mostly for other treating clinicians to see what's going on.
3:18
But a medical report is something quite different.
3:22
It's more of a considered and structural opinion, and it's written for a very specific purpose and a specific audience.

Perhaps you can tell me a bit about which guides are actually used and what these are.
22:29
So this person really has to have a good sort of report, the supervisor or the GP, or ask the GP to go to his workplace.
22:38
Which is often hard for GPs to do, but I think the one thing that the occupational health nurse does really well in that scenario is translating those clinical recommendations into actionable, practical things that you can do in this particular work.
22:57
Because the nurse understands the work.
22:59
So you can, like the GP's written, no lifting over 10 kilos, no lifting overhead, whatever.
23:07
Then you can say, oh, this person can do that and that in the workplace.
23:11
And so I think what we're talking about is that ideal return to work pathway.
23:17
should start immediately, the minute they walk through the door, not six weeks later, not after the MRI scan, not after everyone's agreed on every detail.

How would you describe these terms and where do they fit into in the work scenario?
