So let me just talk about that question.

Is ADHD overdiagnosed? And I think, well, first I want to say that that's not a new kind of headline.

Actually, In 1990, the Washington Post had an article reporting that children in Utah, no, I'm sorry, children in Omaha, Nebraska, were being overdiagnosed with ADHD.

And the story said that five to 10% of children with ADHD were taking stimulant medications for behavioral control and that this was a terrible thing and overdiagnosis.

But the underlying ADHD is missed, and that's a missed opportunity to really help somebody with what's really going on.

Yeah.

And so it puts a different kind of microscope on it.

I tend to agree with your gut feeling because what always happens in restricted free agency, let's just say Peyton Watson, if he wants exactly the same deal Christian Brown got, and the Nuggets are offering him a four-year deal in the 70 million range, and the qualifying offer is 6.5 million, at the end of the day, if you're Peyton Watson, do you wanna play next season on a one-year qualifier for 6.5 million and leave 70 million on the table? Even though 70 million is way less than Christian Brown got, that is really hard to do psychologically, and I tip my cap to any restricted free agent who is willing to play on the qualifier because it is such a risk.

Jalen Duran is in the same position with, with Detroit right now.

If you're Jalen Duran, you just had an all-NBA all-star season, you wanna play the qualifier on 10 million, or are you just gonna take the most you can get from Detroit? It's really tough to ask someone to leave millions on the table, even if it's far less than they were hoping for.

So, and look, th- that's why I keep saying restricted free agency is brutal for the player, and the teams know it, and the Nuggets really have the leverage here.

So it just makes it uncomfortable for everybody.

I, I heard the same thing

Do you get the sense, like how, how much are the Clippers really trying to either hang on to Mathurin or, or leverage him into assets, and how much does that play into what the Bulls could offer here?

here?Well, there was a point early in the off-season, and, you know, obviously their off-season started very early because they didn't make the playoffs.

There was a thought going back to draft lottery time or maybe early June that the Clips might actually renounce their rights to him because they wanted to operate as a cap room team.

That did not come to pass, and all the signals Jake Fisher and I have been getting lately is that the Clippers do hope to retain Mathurin was, when all is said and done with their summer.

Now, if you compare, if you just compare the Bulls to the competition, the Pelicans, we reported, have been trying to move Hawkins' contract to shed some salary, create a little bit more flexibility.

If the Pelicans were successful in doing that, they'd be able to offer closer to the full mid-level in terms of just putting an offer sheet together.

So the Pelicans are going to be able to beat an offer sheet.

The Clippers don't wanna get punished for it

Why do you think generally the market seemed like it was pretty cool on Brown as a trade prospect?

For the same reason that the Celtics felt they had to trade him.

That he, he...

Jaylen Brown has 183 million on his contract over the next three seasons, and he wants an extension.

And I think what the, what has gone unsaid in Boston is the Celtics felt like they had to move fast, I think because they were fearing a trade request because things had gotten so messy, that at some point maybe Jaylen Brown makes a trade re- request that goes public.

Now everyone is stressed, close to this thing, that that did not happen, that Jaylen Brown did not ask to be traded.

But then there's the other part of that equation.

We d- we don't know, but, uh, when you look at the possible destinations, it, it seems like Philadelphia s- certainly is in the mix with some of the other teams that have been brought up.

Like, really, those are more my conversations.

But Caleb Wilson's performance the other night, it only added to the general...

N- whenever I talk to personnel people who are really here to watch the players, they're all saying that already in a very short time, very small sample size, all the talk leading up to the draft about this draft having multiple difference makers, like, it's already been validated, and you don't normally hear that this early in Summer League.

And I think for your guys' purposes, and obviously for everyone who watches CHGO Bulls and everyone in chat, like, you know, this was painted as a top three draft, and of course the Bulls got the fourth pick.

So I'm sure you gu- uh, you know, you guys must have been as giddy as anyone to see the way Wilson started because, you know, he was injured that, he was injured all season and didn't get lumped in with Devantha, Peterson, and Boozer and was kind of, you know, excluded from that talk.

But I just remember during the draft hearing Bryson Graham really likes Caleb Wilson.

Like, have you heard anything, you know what I'm saying, [laughs] about those guys that will make people, you know, like, you know, like, oh, okay, well, make you come down to earth or, you know, waiting for that other, other shoe to fall?

Jaylen Brown, of course, had his Twitch stream Thursday night, as we knew he would.

But I, like a lot of people I talk to around the league, cannot wait to hear Brad Stevens, and it sounds like I saw a Boston Globe report today that ownership will be with him.

Once this trade is made official We have a lot of questions for Brad Stevens because the Celtics are gonna have to explain the timing, the return package they settled for, why they felt the need to do this now.

Obviously, they tried very hard to win the Giannis trade sweepstakes.

Jaylen Brown was at the center of that.

All the discussion after was about how Boston had such high expectations if they were going to trade Jaylen Brown, that they didn't think this was unfixable.

Sure.

We had a handful of guys above him that I'm sure he was like, "All right, that guy ain't above me." Where is he now for you?

Yeah, look, I think if you asked before the start of the playoffs, "Do the Knicks have a consensus top 10 player in the league?" It probably wouldn't have been consensus.

He would've been in my top 10, but I had the privilege of watching Jalen Brunson's first four seasons as a pro in Dallas from very close range.

And what is he, eight seasons in now? He just, he gets better every year still.

He is still improving, as you saw with the leap he took this season in these playoffs.

But, I mean, come on, he smashed that debate.

Now, I mean, the question with Jalen Brunson is, is he the greatest Knick ever? And it's gonna depend on your age and if you could see those teams in '70 and '73 that won it all.

But being on the same team at the same time.

And that's what kind of helped jumpstart the Knicks' comeback because they kept taking all those threes thinking they're going to keep making them.

Yeah, you know, this isn't a foul by Manu Ginobili that sends Dirk Nowitzki to the line late in the game or...

Or a Ray Allen corner three after a crazy offensive rebound.

Like, this was a sustained unraveling for San Antonio.

But I have to say, what I've been thinking about a lot, and we haven't heard the full extent yet.

Obviously, nobody does media today the way they do the finals now.

When you switch cities, everyone travels today.

How does the league adjudicate, curb that? What could they do internally? Or is it just we've seen it on the big stage a lot, so it's just fresh in our consciousness?

What, what was the big pushing, pushing point on getting Jason Kidd out of there? Just because you got a new president and, you know, team president and general manager wants to bring his own guy in? Is that it?

Look, it's, it is surprising because if you watch what happened with Masai Ujiri when he took over the Denver Nuggets and when he took over the Toronto Raptors, I mean, he kept the coaches there in place for a total of eight seasons between George Karl, all three years that Masai Ujiri ran the Nuggets front office, George Karl remained his coach.

He kept Dwayne Casey in place for five full years when he first took over the Raptors.

So it is a little surprising that they've decided to make an immediate change.

But I think also there was, around the league, skepticism.

Would there be room for two huge personalities? And the consistent word from Masai Ujiri since he took over is they want a clean slate.

They wanna start completely over.

What'd you make of, of that?

Scale of one to ten, how surprised are you the Knicks are in the Finals?

Well, not now because they've been playing like this for, you know, if we would, if you would ask me in the first round, I would have said, you know, they, they were uneven in the second half of the season.

I mean, they are now playing their best basketball of the season.

It has been an incredible, just an incredible run of 11 games.

The way they responded to those two back-to-back one point losses to Atlanta was, And, you know, it's fantastic.

I mean, they won tonight.

Every game that these two teams play, the Knicks win again.

Where are you as far as, at this series, going back to San Antonio for Game 6? Is this something where the Spurs can turn it back on and force Game 7, or is this where the thunder comes in? I

It's just such a poorly timed moment to say it.

Yeah, he's getting beat up for it pretty good.

Um, but, you know, look, th- this series is over.

There's no way the Knicks are gonna blow a three-oh lead.

And the kind of dialogue and questions that are gonna be asked about the Cavs, it's going to get a lot more uncomfortable for everybody there, including Kenny Atkinson, because, you know, they need a home win tonight just to avoid a sweep.

If they can't avoid the sweep, it just...

All the stuff that was being talked about when the Cavs were struggling with Detroit, it's all going to come back.

They're spectacular.

The Lakers were 15 and two.

But barring something really strange over these next five games, it's Shea Gilgis-Alexander's award, right?

What is Mark Stein saying about tanking?

Well, look, this is my 33rd season, and, you know, in the 80s when the lottery was instituted, I was a high school kid obsessed with the NBA.

So, I mean, I've been hearing about tanking my whole life, as long as I can remember.

I mean, I was in high school when Houston had Ralph Sampson and tanked their way to Akeem Olajuwon, and that's what led to the lottery.

and then somebody named Michael Jordan was taken third in that 1984 draft.

So look, this is something the NBA has been trying to figure out for more than 40 years.

I think Adam Silver even admitted it at the All-Star game.

Yeah.

But with Adam Silver speaking and, and some of the conversation behind the scenes, it sounds like now the league, the conversation is about what might the league be up to in trying to resolve it.

The league obviously hates this, but they have no choice but to confront it.

I mean, this is the noisiest that the tanking issue has been in a long, long time.

And the reality is, you know, I'm still old enough to remember being in high school and when the Rockets, who already had Ralph Sampson, tanked their way to Hakeem Olajuwon.

The lottery came in in 1985, and more than 40 years later, they're still trying to fix this thing.

I think the lottery has been tweaked five times in those 40-plus years, if my math is right.

They added the play-in tournament to try to discourage tanking.

I don't love that.

Yeah

...

this story last Monday, you know, I reached out the d- to the Dumont/Adelson side of the equation, and the initial response was not a, was not a firm no.

The initial response was, "We're very excited about the future of this franchise and the Cooper Flagg era," and I think that maybe gave people hope, maybe even gave investors who want to partner with Mark Cuban some hope-

Yeah.

And, you know, there, the, the, the discon- Now, I will say this, the discontent in Mavs land, you know, has been a nonstop thing, and, and, you know, in all my years covering the league, I've never seen a reaction to a trade like this.

But, you know, the Miracle of May 12th, as I call it, because, you know, they won the Cooper Flagg lottery with a 1.8% chance.

And again, that takes us right back to the first topic.

And congratulations on a job done from the Buss family.

Well, I mean, look, when you take the totality of the ownership, I mean, the family, you know, been one of the most successful in sports history, obviously over the last 10 years, we have seen various headlines that have revealed some contentious stuff behind the scenes.

And obviously you guys are in Southern California.

You're not far from Hollywood as you're speaking to me.

You guys love drama out there.

We all know it, but, um, You know, is this more than, you know, a day or two story? I mean, again, they traded for Luka Doncic, which, you know, I was talking to someone today in the league, and it's just like it's almost 10 months now.

December 2nd will be 10.

He's out of

Was this something that was coming? Was it not? Was it a surprise? Take me through a little bit about what you've learned from this.

Well, I would say it's been building up at least for the last several days.

On Sunday, I had a big story where I detailed that was contemplating it.

And basically, look, I think coming into this season, Patrick Dumont wanted to give Nico Harrison the full season.

He wanted to give him this season to see if they could get back on a course to contention.

And obviously also the Mavericks were hoping that the lottery miracle of getting the number one overall pick with a less than 2% shot to do so would that the excitement of Cooper flag and the on-court ability of Cooper flag would help nudge the organization in a new direction, help people turn the page.

But they started so badly.

while on course to have historically bad offense.

What happens when LeBron does come back, Mark? Does he come out and is the option number three? Is it going to be awkward at all? What do you think is going on?

I think they're going to be a much better team.

They've already won.

a couple games that have us all scratching our heads.

How did they do this without Luka? They won a game without Luka and Reeves.

I was actually there last night.

I would not put it in game of the season discussion because, guys, it was a three-hour game with all the fouls, and it did not go to overtime, despite the stepping over the end line on the inbounds that would have haunted Marcus Smart for a long time.

What happens with Ja Morant?

What do we do with Anthony Edwards, watching him struggle now deep in the playoffs?

Look, I don't think we have to do anything.

Maybe that's just the way it is, that people will change the way they look at him.

I, look, I, I've been a big Timberwolves fan this season.

I thought they were, outside of Indiana, the most underrated team in the league.

They have not been able to show it in these first two games.

They haven't been able to keep up with the Thunder.

So you, you played better, you looked better, but what's the likelihood that they bounce back from that sort of devastation?
