When you hear, um, General Grukewicz say that any military, um, planes being prevented from landing at Shannon would damage our relationship with the US, what do you make of it?

Well, first of all, it seems like bullying, that it's a vaguely threatening, uh, firstly.

Um, and secondly, uh, I think that, yes, it may damage our relationship, but it's, is this a, a type of damage that most people would have a problem with? Uh, what I mean is that, uh, our provision of military logistical facilities at Shannon for the last 20-plus years, uh, is something that Irish people again and again in polls, uh, don't approve of, and it's something that people feel comprises our, compromises our neutrality, and arguably makes us more of a threat, more of a target for enemies of the United States and NATO, uh, who are carrying out wars, uh, again and again.

We see in Iran and a proxy war in Europe, in Ukraine, um, which don't have the support of the vast majority of people.

And people would, might wonder reasonably, "Do we want to be part of these wars?"

Do you not agree that that is the kind of neutrality that we have?

Generally speaking, I could never understand that point, and I would counter by quoting von Clausewitz, who said famously that, that war is an extension of politics by other means.

I can't see myself the, the sharp line between military, military and political, uh, positions.

What has it been like being in charge of the entire athletics department and various teams and coaches there? compared to being a one-track guy in basketball and being a head coach and running your own program

specifically? Yeah, a really big learning curve, if I'm being honest.

I came here, and, you know, I expressed to Coach Bird within the last year and a half or so of working there that, you know, with my girls' ages and just kind of my lifestyle desire, you know, I was interested in finding a good high school to be a head coach at.

It was really a lifestyle choice.

Most people probably don't understand the amount of time you spend on the road, recruiting, camp, travel, team travel, all the things that are associated with coaching a college.

I did that for 21 years and got to a point where, you know, it wasn't where I was that I was unhappy with what I was doing, but I just really wanted a situation that would allow me to still coach basketball, but would enable me to be, you know, around my family more.

And there's, you know, I got so many colleagues that are still in it.

It doesn't even have to be basketball.

And what does that

look like? Well, I think the first thing that businesses need to realize is while they may be thinking that they are starting with one of these generative AI tools, their employees are already using them.

They're either using them inside the company or they're doing what I call shadow AI.

which is that they've got their cell phones and their personal laptops on their desk next to their corporate laptops, and they're doing work in parallel.

So the place really to start is management needs to build a basic comfort level with AI.

Just be able to ask it core questions about your content, your planning, your presentations, your financials.

One of the things I think is so valuable to ask generative AI is what is it I'm not seeing? What assumptions have I made in my work that I don't even realize that I'm making and have it be able to show you other points of view and expose risks and opportunities in your business that you were never aware of because nobody can see what they don't know.

Yeah, that's the whole point.

Take Mali, for instance.

The UN peacekeeping forces in the Sahel in Africa over the last number of years have not had UN support.

Sorry, excuse me, they had UN support, but peace deals were not properly in place.

And the result is that the peacekeeping missions that were there, they were just ending up getting involved in conflicts.

They weren't actually helping the situation.

that not exactly the kind of precedent which we're talking about? Because that would, if you take that as the hypothetical instance, that would be China controlling the deployment of Irish troops.
