But I'd love to hear your thoughts.
20:53
Okay, I represent 210,000 lawyers based in England and Wales, but we have over 12,000 lawyers based permanently around the world practicing English and Welsh law.
21:06
And so therefore, in the UK, it's slightly different maybe from other nations.
21:10
Many of our lawyers are practicing English law in China or in America or in Canada or in Australia or in India.
21:19
And often they're practicing in areas where common law, in areas of shipping or maritime or insurance or dispute resolution or arbitration, you know, so where contracts have maybe an English law contract.
21:32
So, you know, English law is a global, shall we say, entity.
21:38
But what I have seen when I've been traveling the world is that the issues that is faced by every practitioner is a global issue.

What would you tell them about building a career that is successful, but it's also meaningful and true to who they truly are? I
12:11
And so it makes... colleagues even more important, doesn't it? And kind of networks within your firm or chambers.
12:19
For me, when I joined the law firm, my firm were very active in a local law society.
12:26
And so from a very early stage in my career, I went to a lot of local law society social events.
12:31
Often it's the annual dinner as such.
12:34
And you meet other lawyers, you meet other people from other firms and you build up a network.
12:39
That for me was creating a new community for me of people who understood the work I was doing.
12:45
And so from about 1993 up until about 2010, you know, I would go to local law society events.

But often that's not the way.
