Would-- What kind of high-level advice would you give us, uh, in terms of, you know, how to start thinking about doing this, what the upsides are, what the potential challenges are gonna be in, in some context of, of your journey with, you know, uh, thinking about such ventures?

Mark BaratzGUEST
So it's a great question, and, and unfortunately, I'm not the best person to ask for that because at various points in 2013 when I came to UPMC, I was very intent on having a procedure room and, uh, was unable to, to get that.

Mark BaratzGUEST
Um, one of the issues that people have to consider when they're approaching their practice or the institution is where that, that organization is with respect to cost and revenue.

Mark BaratzGUEST
So when I came to UPMC, they were in a cost-sensitive mode, and they were very interested in a lot of my sustainability initiatives, including procedure rooms.

Mark BaratzGUEST
Uh, but shortly after that, they got into some negotiations that, um, made it very favorable for them to, to not do cases in procedure rooms, um, and became revenue sensitive.

Mark BaratzGUEST
And so I grew up in the area where everyone wanted to generate as much revenue as possible.
