So other than the odd work schedule, is there any other cost to a person for this job, you would say?

Mark AndrewGUEST
Because the day itself does follow some patterns, even though you are right, no two days are completely alike.

Mark AndrewGUEST
However, when you come in in the morning, we know you're going to check your rig out.

Mark AndrewGUEST
So if I'm an ambulance, I'm checking, the driver's checking out the fluids and the coolants.

Mark AndrewGUEST
writing up any mechanical issues, the person in the back of the ambulance with the patient is going through the medical bag, checking the dates on all the supplies, checking the levels of fluids, checking the levels of oxygen, Oxygen in all the various bottles, even if the rig was used the day before, you still got to check that stuff every day because you never know.

Jersey RickHOST
So how does that apply in the fire station? out on the scene of an emergency, and how can people apply that who are listening to this that are not in fire or any type of emergency services?

Mark AndrewGUEST
I have found out it's equally hard in other workplaces, not just the fire service.

Mark AndrewGUEST
If I wanted, I could delegate almost all of my tasks to them because they want to learn how to do them.

Mark AndrewGUEST
I'd love that point because you're one, you want the teams prepared because there could be a medical patient's health or safety on the line.

Mark AndrewGUEST
There could be our safety on the line if we're out of fire or a car extrication.

Mark AndrewGUEST
So I want everybody to perform highly because the goal is to be able to go home at the end of the day.

Mark AndrewGUEST
But I found some of the best leadership examples I had were from the bosses who would say, here's this scenario that we're going to tabletop.

Mark AndrewGUEST
What are your guys' thoughts? And then somebody would say this, you know, that's a really good point.

So when you look at that situation, the command versus the inspiring piece, what's that differentiation that you see when somebody really taps into really the inspirational piece over commanding?

So what is something you think those people tend to misunderstand about leadership when it comes to emergency response environments?

Mark AndrewGUEST
Yes, in being a first responder, a lot of the decisions on the scene do have a person's at least health or well-being on the line.

Mark AndrewGUEST
Not every call is life or death, but But just being paramedics on routine medical calls, if we don't properly assess that patient and get them to the proper emergency room in our district to handle their needs, things can get worse later.

Mark AndrewGUEST
So we are mitigating a lot of medical scenes through that really good paramedical care and paramedicine and even just the leadership.
