'Cause it, it looks like we're off to a early start, and I'm a little bit afraid that we might see those numbers continue to expand more than we want.

Marisa RotoloGUEST
I think from my perspective, I would, I would echo Paul's comments in the sense of it, it is a bit of a, of a thing that causes heartburn to think about and see these increases in activity as it relates to PED, particularly this early in the season.

Marisa RotoloGUEST
When I was in practice, I would always get real nervous early November, right? I would start to say, "Oh man, we're gonna start pumping.

Marisa RotoloGUEST
We're, we're gonna start seeing some outbreaks." Uh, and to see this, this pattern shift earlier in the year tells me that, you know, we've got some opportunities as an industry, as Paul mentioned, to highlight some lessons learned as it relates to, to PED in that biosecurity space.

Marisa RotoloGUEST
So those who are facing this disease pressure and are able to keep PED out of their herds, it would be great to hear from them and get that, uh, th- you know, those critical control points.

Marisa RotoloGUEST
How are they able to keep PED out of their systems in the face of this changing disease pressure this early in the season?

Ann HessCORRESPONDENT
So Marissa, let's start with you and give us a little background of why did the National Pork Board feel it was so important to focus on swine health?

Marisa RotoloGUEST
So in a National Pork Board survey, we saw that 98% of producers feel that swine health is critical to our swine industry.

Marisa RotoloGUEST
And so at Pork Forum last year, there was an advisement for us to really get in with producers and really understand what are the challenges that they're facing.

Marisa RotoloGUEST
And so we put together the National Swine Health Strategy where we ask producers two simple questions.

Marisa RotoloGUEST
what are the challenges, what are the top swine health challenges that you're facing and what do you want industry to do about it? So it was a really good opportunity for us to hear from producers as National Pork Board and our job is to work for producers, right? So it was a good opportunity to invite producers to tell us what is it that you're dealing with on a day-to-day basis and how can we help you?

Marisa RotoloGUEST
I think from my perspective, I think it's really important that we all engage in this process together, right? And so we do have these long-term goals.
