How are you going about trying to ensure that all voices from all areas of Australia are captured?
9:52
Yeah, it's a really good question and it's really important that we get a broad scope of voices.
9:57
I mean, when I've talked about my experience, I've spoken about the really important role good quality care played in me getting better.
10:08
But I've also spoken about how cognizant I am that I could access that care because I live in a capital city and because I could afford it at the time.
10:16
And for many women, that's just not their experience.
10:19
So I really want to hear from women from right across Australia, from different backgrounds, about what's helped them, what has let them down.
10:28
And critically, in this time, which can be so difficult, you know, in those early weeks and months, it can be hard enough to even leave the house, let alone to get out and to try to start navigating care and make appointments.
11:51
So I think those kind of conversations are really important to document too, aren't they?
12:16
So since the inquiry has handed down its recommendations, obviously you've mentioned a couple already that aside from this campaign that have gone ahead, what progress have you been most encouraged by?
12:28
Well, in response to this work and some of the other work we've done on women's health over the last parliament, we got a pretty incredible $792 million investment in women's health from the federal government.
12:42
That's huge.
12:43
Often in public policy, you chip away at issues and you hope to get incremental changes.
12:50
This is a step change in the way women's health is being funded and treated in Australia.
12:56
It includes things like new medicines added to the PBS.
12:59
So it had been decades since we've seen new contraceptives and new hormone replacement therapies added to the PBS.
14:41
workplaces as being that that final frontier? I
6:00
If we could perhaps start with your own story, can you tell us what happened after the birth of your son?
6:05
son? When I had my first child, Benjamin, I had an incredible experience with the birth.
6:12
I felt like an absolute warrior.
6:14
I've never, ever felt more powerful, more brave, and I've never felt consumed with so much love.
6:22
It's like a all-of-body experience which never, ever leaves you.
6:27
But it was the days after the birth of Benjamin that I really started to struggle.
6:32
I had great difficulties breastfeeding, difficulties with latching.
8:06
Why do we need these stories to be then elevated as part of an inquiry to better understand this picture?
1:20
Do you mind sharing a bit of your experience with postpartum anxiety?
1:25
Yeah.
1:26
I...
1:26
Look, I'm happy to.
1:27
I mean, Tegan, when I gave birth, it was an amazing experience.
1:31
I was really lucky in that I had just a, a beautiful birth.
1:35
I felt like a warrior, um, and I came to the other side of that just elated at the miracle [laughs] I just brought into the world and how precious my son was.
3:41
What do you hope will come from this?
26:05
Do you mind sharing a bit of your experience with postpartum anxiety?
26:11
Yeah.
26:11
I- look, I'm happy to.
26:12
I mean, Tegan, when I gave birth, it was an amazing experience.
26:16
I was really lucky in that I had just a, a beautiful birth.
26:20
I felt like a warrior, um, and I came to the other side of that just elated at the miracle [laughs] I just brought into the world and how precious my son was.
26:29
But it was in the days and weeks following the birth that I really started to struggle.
28:26
What do you hope will come from this?
