Margo RobbinsGUEST
Our reservation is, uh, the Yurok Reservation is in far Northern California along the Klamath River, a mile on each side of the river, and our ancestral territory is much bigger than that.

Margo RobbinsGUEST
Little over 100 years ago, our native people were severely punished, in fact, shot, if they were seen trying to take care of the land with fire.

Margo RobbinsGUEST
And then in later years, they made a law to where you can be imprisoned for many, many years, which still exists to this day.

Margo RobbinsGUEST
As a consequence of that, our land is really, really, really overgrown with trees and brush.

Margo RobbinsGUEST
The brush is so thick that you can't see through it, you can't walk through it.
