Can you give us in simple terms of what it actually means? So RANS is an acronym

Margo MountjoyGUEST
It's a clinically medically diagnosed syndrome that which happens to occur both physiological and psychological implications for exposure to that athlete to something we call problematic low energy availability.

Margo MountjoyGUEST
And what that is, is having not enough energy to meet the body's needs for function.

Margo MountjoyGUEST
And one of them might be restrictive intake from someone with body image issues or a disordered eating or eating disorder or being restricted by a coach for body physique changes, things like that.

And so potentially for younger athletes who maybe aren't thinking about having children yet or are potentially excited about the idea of not having periods, what's the risk of us not having a regular cycle? Yeah, it's a very

For sure, 'cause it's not fun, and, um, and also, what's the point, right? When people want to say run, well, I get it, I'm gonna run or I'm gonna do sprints 'cause that's part of what I want to do and what I want to do.

Margo MountjoyGUEST
Um, but, you know, doing that doesn't seem to, to translate into improving my performance, when in fact it's going to improve your performance and it's going to prevent injury.

Margo MountjoyGUEST
So I think that's maybe part of that implementation science is, um, y- you don't have to say, "Just do this." You have to say, "Why is it important, and what is going to change in your performance?" To, to help bring in that intellectual buy-in to doing that.

Margo MountjoyGUEST
And that goes with, you know, encouraging coaches to do it because, you know, being told as the coach, you have to do it, but what's the point? 'Cause I got X number of minutes and I gotta go through these plays, and these people are out of shape, so I gotta, I gotta get them back into physical shape.

Margo MountjoyGUEST
So I don't want to waste my time doing something that doesn't make any sense, and I don't know what it's about.

Margo MountjoyGUEST
So having that buy-in, not just from the athlete perspective of I gotta do this, but to-- from the coach perspective of understanding why to do it, but then having them on board doing it, um, you know, having the coach buy in.
