There are multiple interventions that we can try for patients with cholestatic pruritus.

I typically use non-sedating antihistamines during the day and sedating ones at nighttime.

If these do not work, bile acid resins, such as cholestyramine, are typically tried.

Other drugs that can be used, including sertraline, naltrexone, or rifampin, we use from time to time.

Some providers suggest using phototherapy or even going as far as using plasmapheresis with albumin dialysis for severe refractory cases.
