Tell us about why you wrote it.
16:30
Well, I wrote it for a number of reasons.
16:32
The, the major reason that got me to write it was actually the beginning of the October 7th war and what happened during that war.
16:41
Now, I had been a Newsweek correspondent here in Israel over the years for many years, and I've been writing about Israel from, um, North America and from Israel.
16:48
But I needed to put it all into perspective and understand how we got from here to there, and how we got from, uh, in, in my lifetime, in, in my, my, in my lifetime, my adulthood, uh, a, a period of hope, as I've s- called...
17:03
The beginning of this, the book talks about the hope, the period of Rabin and the peace process to October 7th, which destroyed, uh, any immediate prospects of peace.
17:15
And trying to understand that and trying to put it in perspective, and at the same time putting in perspective that there were two Israels going on throughout this period because as Israel was dealing with the security challenges, its high tech, uh, sector, its industries have just taken off year after year and have...

16:53
Tell us about what's goin' on in Yemen.
16:57
Okay.
16:57
So in Yemen, there's been some interesting developments.
16:59
As your listeners might remember, the Houthi, which are the breakaway Iran-backed group in, in Yemen, have been firing on Saudi Arabia and have threatened to close the Straits of Bab-el-Mandeb, which is on the bottom of the, uh, Red Sea.
17:15
Um, and their troops actually a few weeks ago captured the land area from the main government, uh, near Bab-el-Mandeb.
17:25
Today, or maybe yes, last night, the national government of, uh, Yemen announced a major offensive against the Houthis.
17:34
Uh, reportedly, they've recaptured the area that the Houthis took control of along the straits.

18 MINS LATER

35:44
Uh, Marc, before I let you go, there's been some talk now that, uh, the, uh, uh, Great Britain has developed a new interest, or at least its citizens, on becoming a part of the EU.
12:02
Netanyahu claims that Israel is making a great comeback from the October 7th defeat.
12:09
I don't really accept Prime Minister Netanyahu's view that we've, you know, yes, we're in a better military short-term position than we were, obviously, on October 7th.
12:19
Our troops are further in.
12:21
I'm not sure what's a better position, necessarily.
12:23
Just because they're further in, I don't think, I'm not sure I even accept the whole idea we have to rethink our military strategy.
12:30
I think one of the biggest mistakes that are being made right now is we're making all sorts of strategic decisions without ever sitting down and understanding what happened on October 7th and understanding what the military implications of October 7th is.
12:44
We have a new strategy.
17:37
So do you believe it? Does it seem to be well-sourced? What's your
