Do you have any inside track on maybe what's going to be happening in the market in the next couple of years?

Mandy KennedyGUEST
Well, we're doing a bit of renewal at the moment, which is, I was going to say, quite hidden from the public view because it is literally underground.

Mandy KennedyGUEST
So we've gone four levels below ground putting in bulk cold storage and that is going to make us much more sustainable.

Mandy KennedyGUEST
It's all about how can we divert what somebody may think of as a waste stream into something more purposeful.

Mandy KennedyGUEST
I believe in putting that mass cold storage down there It's just a much more sustainable approach and having little cool rooms for each of the vendors.

Mandy KennedyGUEST
There's also other works that are going on putting in more sort of plaza and seating areas because, of course, we no longer have so many people coming in and doing their massive grocery shops like when I grew up in the 70s and 80s.

Mandy KennedyGUEST
The needs of the current customer is different to the needs of the customer 50 years ago.

Kevin DurkeeHOST
I'd love to hear a little bit more about the moving feast kitchen and that incubator and what you're doing there to divert overripe produce and unsold items and some of the dishes and flavors that are coming out of some of those initiatives.

And we opened up the, uh, the bone marrow cancer unit in Christchurch Hospital in nineteen ninety-one and gifted that unit to the people of New Zealand.

Mandy KennedyGUEST
Um, hot on the heels of that, our organization realized that there was a need, a great need for a place for patients for the, you know, that were being treated for bone marrow and their families to have somewhere to stay.

Mandy KennedyGUEST
So our trust did it again, fundraised, um, acquired a piece of land directly opposite, uh, Christchurch Hospital and built the, what we call the original Rānui house.

Mandy KennedyGUEST
It filled pretty quickly with those patients and families, so we fundraised again, put another three apartments on the top of the original building and, uh, took us to nine.

Mandy KennedyGUEST
We were constantly being asked for, uh, help from other patients with various treatments, so our trustees had a good think about that.

John CampbellHOST
So there are, not only are there the health pressures, the stress of the diagnosis, but also real, uh, in- income pressures too.
